Even though the pebbles are very small, when I use my aquarium vacuum to clean the debris out, they do not get sucked up with the debris. They also look very nice and they stay looking nice for quite a while. They also do not leave discoloration or foggy water.

Nice material, like coarse sand, with a natural, light tan color. As I always do, I rinsed it before adding it to the tank, but it was perfectly clean already with no hazyness or cloudiness in the rinse water. Would buy again

The reviews about this gravel smelling odd are true. Smells like a solvent or something. I rinsed it about 10 times and thought to open a case with Fluval Support who said:"Thank you for reaching out about this, based on the information provided, it appears that the smell you are detecting is likely coming from the natural dyes used in the substrate of the natural surfer [sic] smell of the lava stone. This product is safe to use and the smell is not harmful to aquatic life."I had my doubts so I bought a minnow to test the water (his name was "test pilot" and he died in about 20 minutes). See my picture upload. If I had to speculate I'd say it has to do with some kind of hydrophobic coating on the sand, but I'm 100% guessing. If you like your fish, don't use this stuff. Such a bummer.

The fawn is my color I bought, while rinsing many pieces raise up and float , so make sure you buy extra. I’d rinsed as directed and particles went with. Careful sand is soft for betta’s , however sharp on surfaces.

This came quickly and just in time to set up the new Betta tank. Looks really great and is an inactive substrate that you can plant in and will also not harm your Betta.I was looking for a topper and this works as a great topper to aquarium substrate as well.
