It is RIO backing and works as it should. It is not gelspun but that is not needed unless you need more capacity or you need higher than 30lb strength. This 200 yard spool is the perfect way to back your reels and get just the right amount of space for your line fly line to be at the optimum level on the reel.

Backing for most fly fishing set ups under probably a 5 or 6 weight are just to fill up space on the fly reel, so why not choose something that makes your reel look better. It's a great looking color and the quality of it is good, the color doesn't fade quickly either.
