Our easy-to-assemble kit for making your own hammered dulcimer hammers will save you a ton of money, and only take an afternoon to assemble. We've taken 1/8” thick blanks of Honduras mahogany, laser-cut them to size/shape, and we're leaving the assembly (a spot of glue) and sanding (start with 120 grit sandpaper, finish with 220 grit paper) to you. In our hammered dulcimer kits for sale, your hammers are sanded to your satisfaction (Honduras mahogany is very soft, and will sand very, very easily!). Afterwards, you can add a finish (we would recommend a polyurethane, or a Danish oil) or leave the wood bare. Cut the leather pads to length, glue them on (we would use Duco Cement) and then make some music. Our hammered dulcimer hammers kit includes four shafts, eight caps, and a piece of leather long enough for four completed hammers.

Good value, very easy to assemble, I saved a bunch of money over buying premade ones. took less than 5 minutes to put together.

Based on previous reviews, I expected these to be very lightweight but I figured they are inexpensive enough to take a chance. They are only 1/8" thick on the shaft and each side of the handle so they are very light. Some people may like the weight but it was not for me. The shaft and head are nicely cut by laser so they do have blackened edges that may have to be sanded down. The handles are somewhat larger than the shaft so it would take a lot of sanding to match them up, and that would be difficult to do without a drum sander or maybe a Dremel sized tool; I didn't try either once I found they are too light. Once assembled the handle is not wide enough for me; I prefer around 1/2" finished instead of 3/8" before sanding. The overall length, size of the head and shape of the head are spot on for me. If these were made with 3/16" or 1/4" thick would they might be heavy enough for me. The leather that was supplied was about 1/2" shy of being long enough to cover the entire cutout on the heads, but I quartered it and made do by centering each quarter on the heads. I didn't expect to receive great hammer at this price but I did expect the handles to match the shaft so I can't give higher than a 3. If you like very light hammers and have the tools to properly shape the handles you might like these after a little work.

The inside and outside pieces are not the same size. So, after gluing, I had o sand the outside pieces down to match the inside piece, and not just a little bit. With a little work, and a nice stain, they look and work fine.
