Forstner Bits have a double-ground and sharp serrated edge. It has multiple cutting edges, so it slices throughout the rotation of the bit with less splintering and chipping, and produce perfect flat-bottom holes. At same time,this design ensures less friction and heat, that ensure cuts cleanly and accurately with no wobbling or burning the wood, and longer service life. Forstner bits are mostly used in the woodworking industry to drill holes that are larger than those that can be made with ordinary drill bits.Forstner bit is designed to make precise holes that have flat bottoms (except for the small pilot point in the center) smooth sides and a clean entry cut with limited splintering in any type of wood.
Forstner bit can cut at angles or cut along the edges of a board with a drill press while the wood held firmly in place on the table beneath the drill bit, something that one would be hard-pressed to do with a spade or twist drill bit.

Needed to make a couple of through-holes in a marine plywood cabinet to mount 12v USB power outlets in a camper. I've spade drilled and jigsaw cut this plywood before and well, it didn't turn out to good. I've procrastinated ever since. But the need did not subside so I pulled the trigger and bought the CORTOOL Forstner Bit Set 16Pcs Hex Shank, Wood Drill Bits Set. Proper tool for the job. Makes great holes or countersinks if you don't go all the way through. In my case, I needed to go through and did not have access to the back side with my drill. The hole cut clean and there were no splintering. Emboldened, I'm now going to take on those other projects that need clean holes. Nice case, oiled bits, sharp, clean cutting bits, good size selection and good price.

I ordered these bits for a specific project. I only need about 4 sizes for the project, but was able to buy this assortment for a lesser price than buying individual bits. They were surprisingly really good quality, and performed exactly as hoped.

I opened and test cut with every bit in the set, using a piece of red cedar.They all cut smoothly and left clean, untorn entries.They all, except the smallest, cut oversized holes; 0.2mm to 0.6mm over, well within woodworking standards. I did not think that was bad at all, considering that they are driven by hex shanks. A hex shank does not contact the jaws of a chuck in the same way that a round shank does, inducing more runout.If your picky about getting an exact hole size, I would suggest buying bits with ground round shanks, instead of bargain bits.They all had some small burrs on ground edges, nothing big and easily cleaned up.

Received these and each bit was packed in a plastic bag in the sturdy plastic container. After a thorough inspection, I found the bits to be well sharpened, with no visible nicks or chips in the cutting surfaces. So far they have performed very well. They are well worth the price.

They should clearly specify that is uses 3/8 inch hex shank, not the consumer common 1/4" hex shank.
