Fantastic sub. Perfect for a condo space or bedroom. Accurate, great, and potentially, loud response levels. I did custom paint it so don’t expect that color scheme. But, I did literally just buy another one. Smallest sub I could find and worth every penny. We know that an 8, 10, or 12 will do the job but this thing kills it. Fostex for the win

This is the cutest subwoofer ever. OK, is it indeed a subwoofer? Yes and no. It's certainly a woofer at least. The 40 Hz spec seems accurate but a true SUBwoofer should at least go down to 25-30 Hz. But I'm happy to find this little gem. I use it with a 32" TV in the kitchen. It fills in everything below the TV's ability and has a nice thump when soundtracks supply bass frequencies the TV ignores. It won't shake the walls but it does provide a good bottom for realizing full range audio. The tiny size is awesome and the performance is really amazing. Some say it's over priced but I disagree. You can get more sub for the money but there's nothing to compare at this size. I like it.

I like to start with identifying product flaws or shortfalls, and there is only one reason for the drop to 4 stars... there is no speaker grill to protect the driver. Though this provides a pleasing aesthetic view of the carbon-fiber(?) driver, it requires a degree of caution if you have it place near your feet at a computer desk)Now, for the good... or perhaps excellent things:- Very compact- Great power through design- RCA Pass-through connections (I have my laptop running to the sub via an 3.5mm mini-RCA to stereo RCA cable, then out t o a DROK D502 mini amp that is feeding a pair of Canton MX.3 satellites)- Adjustable gain and cutoff (extremely helpful to "tune" the sub to main speakers)- Phase select (though not necessary in my set-up)- Auto on/off selection- Very good build quality for its price-pointThe bottom line is that if you need a versatile sub, for a small space, I doubt this can be beat. I previously had a Klipsch R-8SW, and this was an excellent replacement. It may not rock your neighbors, or shake your foundation, but I would say it hits above its class in performance, size and flexibility. Kudos to Fostex.

I got this sub together with 2 ADAM A3X monitors and the result is great. This setup is for a desktop computer, where the result I was looking for is excellent sound quality and smooth bass. I was concerned the 5" driver might not contribute enough, but it actually does and improves the lower end substantially (goes down to 40Hz). The little guy is actually impressive and sometimes produces even a good punch. But understand, it still is a small sub-woofer and will not rock your house. Great for all who want great sound.

This is a small and great subwoofer. I was looking for something to use with my desktop active speakers in a small office. This is perfect. If you have a small space, I would recommend this subwoofer.

I ran a test tone at 40hz and there was barely any output so the spec of 40hz is a huge exaggeration.I ran a test tone at 50hz and there was good output. The bass quality at 50hz and above is good so I would recommend this sub if you have little speakers like the Audioengine A2.However, normal sized bookshelf speakers will play about as low as this Fostex subwoofer.

I bought this subwoofer speakers for my mini sound system. Senior relaxation for the life. I think this is the best subwoofer for the mini sound system. It’s not too much space for your small room.

My wife doesn't like the space a big sub takes up so. . . This little giant is a great compromise, it gives her the small footprint while delivering good sound despite it's smal size.

Joined with my Fostex PMO.4n active monitors they sound better than conventional sound system integrated amplifier/passive speakers. I had a Cambridge amplifier and B&W speakers. I first buy one PM-SUBmini2, but the (maniac) audiophile in me wanted already after my testings à second one. Really good quality audiophile product

This is a nice little subwoofer, but it's not for all settings. If you're an audiophile or AV enthusiast, this probably is not for you. This sub isn't going to rock your floorboards. These are the two obvious uses for the subwoofer that I can think of:1. Subwoofer for computer speakers2. Subwoofer for a home theater in a small apartment where a real subwoofer would get you evictedI'm using it as a subwoofer for my desktop computer. My main speakers (Kanto Ben) have no bass at all. I've been using a jury rigged setup using a cheap old sub from my old Cambridge Soundworks computer speakers. The difference between what I was using and this Fostex is night and day. The cheap sub I was using provided bass and rumble, but the sounds were indistinct, whereas the lower notes sound much more natural with the Fostex. The only alternative sub that I've seen is the Kanto Sub6, but it's almost twice the price, and larger (although it's available with a white finish, which is nice). As for the features, the things that matter are: stereo RCA passthrough to powered speakers, auto standby mode toggle, variable frequency cutoff and variable volume. This sub is designed to be paired with Fostex's computer speakers, but it will work with anything. The standby mode consumes The audio signal path I'm using is this: optical connection from PC to a Fiio Taishan DAC and an RCA cable (included) from the DAC to the sub. My speakers are getting the signal from the 3.5mm output of the DAC fed into an inexpensive Nobsound amp. After calibrating the levels to my taste, everything sounds great in my setup.I have only one beef with the subwoofer. It has a bright blue LED on the front panel (which also sticks out a couple of millimeters), that annoys the heck out of me. I keep the sub on my desk, and that LED is always in my line of sight. I put a black sticker over it, which makes it less noticeable.

I have added this subwoofer to two new Sony bookshelf speakers for the sound system in our living room. The Sonys are good, but don't have quite the "punch" in the lower frequencies that I like. Space was a consideration, as is the overall quality and sound output. I tuned the sub using the controls on the back to match the crossover frequency which produced the best bass response without distortion or being overly "boomy". Quite pleased with the result. I previously had a pair of Paradigm bookshelf speakers so am used to good quality sound. My tuner/amp is mid to higher end Onkyo that puts out a good deal of power if it want it to. I like the Fostex sub and think it is a good buy for the money. It is solidly built and has good controls on the back. I also like the "sleep" function that drops the power consumption when not in use. Money well spent.
