For years, I had a beautiful, sleek cheese slicer that would cut everything from paper-thin curls to thick, uniform slices. I was heartbroken when someone in the household donated it to a thrift shop because they thought it was a vegetable peeler (of which we had several). I found the replacement cost of that particular slicer was beyond our current budget, so I replaced it with this model.The lost cheese slicer was infinitely adjustable and used two "wheels" to adjust the thickness. This cheese slicer is quite a bit clunkier. You have to use a screw to adjust the positioning of the wire, and I have fround that the screw is difficult to adjust by hand, so if you want to adjust the thickness of the cheese slices, you have to have a screwdriver (or something that will open and close a small screw) handy. This is not an advantage.The device looks nice. It's a pretty stainless steel, and it feels as though the handle will be durable. If you just want uniform cheese slices and aren't interested in paper-thin slices, this will do the job. If you want something more adjustable, this might not be your "jam."I think, however, that I will send this back and get a replacement for the higher quality cheese slicer.

Had a smaller cutter for 40 years+. Loved the ease of cutting and uniformity of slices. Wire finally broke. Was delighted to find another although it is larger. Same cutting ease

To be fair, this is an OKAY slicer.Somehow this week I broke two plastic slicers of this style. The wire broke on one and the actual plastic of the other.This metal one with the replacement wire(S!) seemed like it would cover those issues. It seemed premium for the other cheese slicers in the $7-10 range, but I wish I read the other reviews.The description says it comes with TWO REPLACEMENT WIRES. The truth is, it comes with ONE installed and ONE replacement; TWO TOTAL."Replacement" in my mind never include the one used to make the product functional.I can say that the wire appears to be of good firmness and quality and the one replacement is better than none. You can always tighten or adjust it with a Phillips (cross-head) OR flat-head screwdriver.The stainless steel seems firm but it is like a hollow, one-sided casting so it isn't the most secure to hold. It will get the job done, but I expected both sides to be similar.The slice size adjustment thumbscrew was easy enough to turn by hand for loosening and tightening, but may also be turned with a Phillips screwdriver. The roller seemed secure enough for multiple slices, but you can probably be more certain by not putting too much pressure against the adjustable roller and letting the wire do the work.I have not cleaned this in the dishwasher, but I feel I will do better to hand wash and dry; especially with the uneven underside.In summary: I'm not worried about this breaking. I like the extra wire, should I need it, and I think this will get you slightly thinner slices than other slicers of its kind.

I would not recommend buying this product as there are several issues that render this slicer mostly worthless.The screws rust - these should have been stainless.The wire that does the slicing doesn't stay tight.The screw that holds the sliding part (to adjust thickness) does nothing. It won't hold the desired thickness so you must hold your thumb against the slider to hold it in place.

My old trusty Progressive slicer broke (plastic frame). Needed replacement, this was reasonably priced, but doesn't work well. Wire is attached w 2 screws but cannot be tightened, and way too thick. Chewed up a block of jack cheese into ragged slices. Roller can be adjusted up or down, but wobbles so u dont get uniform slices. Nope. :(

My mom has had one of these for as long as I can remember and I always wanted one. Although I wish this was one solid piece, it still does what I need it to do. I was happy to see that it came with 2 replacement strings. Only negative is that because it’s a moulded tool and no fully solid, it’s not not very comfortable to hold. For the price, I would still recommend it as it slices well and does what it needs to do. .

I had a different cheese slicer with a wire that broke very quickly and didn’t allow replacement, ended in the garbage.This one is lasting longer and it came with an extra wire, all thumbs up!
