I could never figure out what to call these (my mom had one) in order to look them up. Anyway, they're a good, sturdy, useful item (even if the manufacturer puts a ridiculously sticky label on them I had to use acetone to get off). Be sure your glass top range will still work if there's something between your pan and the glass. I have a brand new, state of the art electric range that won't turn on/register that there's a pan when I try to use these with it *mad face*Seems to me, they manufacturer these ovens to scratch up so you can buy new ones. Anyway, I use these little stars all the time when I'm taking hot pans off the element and setting them on cutting boards or other surfaces. I like them and find a lot of other uses for them.

I honestly didn't know they still made these loops. My mother always used them to save the bottoms of cooking utensils. I use mine everyday on a regular electric range with those coils that provide heat. It takes a bit longer to heat whatever you're cooking, but things have a tendency to burn a lot less, making cooking more enjoyable & less stressful. Also saving your cookware in the process. These are nice & thick. They have begun to discolour & lose their nice plated finish (turning charcoal) but they are very solid when you pick them up after being heated over & over. I highly recommend these for all electric ranges.

One of these eye rings has been in my mother's home and my home forever. If you have a pot that is too hot or something that can easily stick to the bottom of your pan, this will do the trick. It immediately gets your pot off the eye/flame and lowers the temperature. It can give you a little breathing room to stir or add ingredients before the items sticks, curdles, or boils over. It's been a life saver many times. I don't think many people know about this handy gadget.

Having purchased a vintage Pyrex Flameware percolator, I needed to get a heat spreader/diffuser grid to safely use it on my electric coil stove. The intense hot spots of a bare coil burner can cause even heat-resistant borosilicate and aluminosilocate glass to break if the two are touching. (Pyroceram glass-ceramic, on the other hand, will easily tolerate said hot spots, which is why old stovetop-safe Corningware and Visions cookware don’t require a heat spreader). There’s not a lot of choices when it comes to heat diffusers/spreaders—there’s the old-fashioned wire ones in a star or clover shape, or the kind that look like a flattened colander with a handle. I wanted something without a handle that would take up extra space on the stovetop or in a drawer, so this fit the bill. The stainless steel construction means it is extremely sturdy and durable—you can’t accidentally bend it out of shape like the usual paperclip-thin spreaders, and it should effectively last forever. My percolator is a large 9 cup model and the heat spreader fits it perfectly on my smaller stove burners; the percolator is slightly off-center in the photo so the spreader’s frontmost corners are sticking out more than they should. The only inherent downside I can think of (and this is just speculation) is the thicker steel wire probably contributes to a longer initial heating time when compared to a typical skinny heat spreader, since there is a larger gap between the burner and the bottom of the pot.(I knocked one star off because the heat spreader needed a very thorough scrubbing before use. For some reason there were stubborn patches of what felt like sticker residue on the metal, even though the only sticker was on the exterior of the bag).

4-sided works better than a 3 finger wire for stability, also the wire or rod is bigger than the wire ones that seem to slowly wither away from usage.

This thing-a-ma-jigs is wonderful to put between the burner and pot/pan to keep things from burning. Given that you are putting it on a hot appliance, however, I'm baffled as to why they wrapped a product sticker around it. Took a long soaking to scrub it off. Knocked off two stars for the inconvenience of not being able to use it right away.
