I've tried almost all of FL's chalk variants at this point, so I was excited to find a new one to test out. The discs are a hard but brittle chalk blend compared to their loose bagged chalk. I'd say this style of chalk is not ideal for those who prefer to break down blocks into loose crumbles, but it does work exceptionally well for those who prefer to rub chalk off the main block/disc. The entire tube of chalk contains all the discs wrapped in one piece of paper, and some of the edges appear to chip off the discs in transit, so it can get a tad messy if you're trying to only get out one single disc at a time. I use a bucket-style chalk bag and just dumped in all the discs at once, so this wasn't an issue for me. The longevity of the drying of my hands with this chalk seems to be a little shorter lasting than the loose chalk variants that FL makes. Overall, I will likely stick to their loose chalk options, but these discs are certainly still worth a try.

These chalk disks work well for climbing chalk. I have used loose chalk and blocks of chalk but never disks! I like that they are a smaller size than the blocks - I break up the blocks into smaller pieces but with the disks, I use them as is. They did come a little damaged in shipping even though they were packed well in their recyclable cardboard container. I don't mind since they don't need to be in perfect condition to be used anyway. The chalk works great for climbing and soaks up any sweat on your hands right away.

Gym chalk by its very nature is messy but getting a tube of broken pieces is beyond disappointing. You could say it's down to delivery or whatever, but it's really poor design. The five chalk discs come wrapped in a single piece of paper. It was impossible to extract just one broken disc without it crumbling completely, so I had to unwrap the whole thing. Then I had to sift through the pieces, take the biggest remaining ones and put them back in the tube, then try to fit the smaller pieces in. Finally, I had the paper left with a bunch of powder in it. I should just throw it away, but I hate waste. Instead, I will try to gingerly unwrap it, use what I need, and wrap it back up without making too big of a mess. Now, the stuff is still useable, but I am starting with a big mess, and every time I try to use it, it will only add to the mess. The point is that you hold a disc and apply it with precision to where you need it most. Even that doesn't work because the disc breaks apart too easily. It's just wrong. I've bought chalk in the past in a box. It was shipped to me from a long way away and did not come in perfect condition. But most of the bricks were in tact and there was minimal mess. I could take out a brick, apply it with precision, then keep it in a baggie and it would stay together. This box would have lasted me the rest of my life if I hadn't had to leave it behind in a move. Now I have this mess. It will work, even as powder. That's what chalk is. But it in no way lives up to its billing.

Mine came in just a tube filled with powdered chalk. I really was looking for solid pieces so I spent more in order to get that, but it was just dust anyway. Now chalk does what it does and it works fine, but for my purposes I needed solid bars.

The Friction Labs Chalk Discs have proven to be a game-changer in my weightlifting routine. These premium gym chalk blocks, designed for activities ranging from rock climbing to gymnastics and weightlifting, excel in providing the extra grip needed for enhanced performance. What sets these chalk discs apart is their effectiveness without creating a mess. By storing them in a chalk bag and applying the chalk within, the process is tidy, with minimal chalk dust escaping into the environment. This thoughtful use ensures that the focus remains on the workout, not on cleaning up.Each 0.85oz block offers a substantial amount of chalk, contributing significantly to a more secure grip during lifts. This improved grip translates to better control and efficiency in executing movements, which is crucial in both training and competition settings. In summary, Friction Labs Chalk Discs are a top-tier choice for athletes who prioritize performance and cleanliness. They deliver on their promise of moisture absorption and enhanced grip, making them an essential part of my weightlifting gear.

I'm not sure if these discs being crumbly is such a bad thing. I'm a new indoor climber and the chalk works as advertised. Typically you're throwing these in a chalk bag (possibly in some chalk balls inside of your chalk bag), quickly grabbing a ball or a swishing your hand around and moving on. Is it prettier to have intact chalk? Yes. Is it necessary? No. I believe this is a packaging issue more than anything. My discs arrived intact, so I guess I was lucky. Given the other reviews, I would suggest that Friction Labs adds some padding to their cardboard tube.

Bought this because all the others are quite big. I do Crossfit so use a lot of it.It is compact and fits in to a small container perfectly and does not crumble easy as the rival brands, so will last longer and is great value for money. The grip feels great so maintaining performance is no an issue.

I like the chalk disc design but the overall chalk was not very good. I even had a friend mention that he thought I was using the cheapest chalk available because it does little help with grip. I have to agree with that, it's just not worth the extra money - buy something cheaper/better.

We own a CrossFit box and have been searching for chalk that doesn't break into pots of dust instantly. This stuff is crumbly beyond belief and also doesn't transfer onto your hands at all. Will be going back to regular square blocks
