A great replacement for rice. I highly recommend it. I was looking for a healthier alternative to rice and this is great. And I can even cook it in my rice maker which is convenient. It was a little more expensive than I'd like, but not unreasonable and it should last for many meals. Plus, I can't find it at the grocery stores where I live so online was my best option and it arrived quickly. I will definitely buy more.

Here in the dark woods of Northern Minnesota, Deer Camp in the fall is quite a tradition. Over the years the number of us has dwindled down to a scant half dozen. I've been the camp cook now for more years than I care to remember. At supper time the first day, we kind of let the baqadger loose. Tonight we had a big pot of Beef Barley soup. I'm not quite sure but I think I was just elected King Cook of all time. I think it had a lot to do with the big addition of Gefen Pearl Barley. Now that's pretty darned good deer camp soup. Give it a try folks.

The barley tastes fine. However, the label reading " Needs To Be Checked For Insects" is a bit off-putting. Obviously, that label is not on the package shown in the listing for this item.

When cooking brown rice in a rice cooker, the lid can get a bit dirty. After adding a bit of pearl barley, that problem was solved!

And I have found it is so hard to locate barley in any grocery stores. So I was ecstatic when I located this on Amazon. It makes great beef, barley soup and also nice thick vegetable soup as well. It is tasty and healthy and probably half of the world eats barley.

For some reason I can no longer find pearl barley in markets, only instant barley which I find ends up soggy and bland.I use in soups and this is perfect. Regardless of package notes, I have never found insects nor foreign matter/debris in any of six packages I've used so far. Very pleased with product.
