I got a used truck and the belt started screaming, when I was turning the steering wheel.Belt looked perfectly fine.Couldn't figure it out, since it came with a aftermarket belt tensionerSo I got this part, and put it on - still almost the same screaming - but!! I could see at the marks this OEM part that my belt is worn out! The belt stretch indicator was all the way at the end.Bought a new ACDelco belt, put it on, screaming gone.It has so much more tension - could hardly get it on. But now I can see at the indicator that it's right at the beginning of the indicator, so over time I can watch the belt tension.Easy project, great part, much better control later. If you buy a cheaper tensioner, it might work, but you have now way of knowing if your belt is worn out, or something else is wrong.

Over the decades, I've bought my share if aftermarket 'OEM level' parts. WHEN IT COMES TO PARTS WHERE THE QUALITY OF THE BEARINGS IS SO IMPORTANT, BUYING TRUE OEM IS THE WAY TO GO. The unit was a few dollars more than most afrermarkets, but the price differential isn't worth guessing it's long-term LONGEVITY of the unit itself, maintaining constant belt tension, and bearing noise. Replace the pulley wheel and serpentine belt at the same time & you'd be surprised how QUIET the engine becomes. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE TIMES BUYING A TRUE OEM PART IS WORTH THE LONG-TERM PEACE OF MIND & PREDICTABLE PERFORMANCE...A NO BRAINER

I had recently bought a 1996 K1500 5.7L and the squeaking belt was driving me nuts! The dealer replaced it when I picked the truck up, but that started squeaking within a few hours. Thought, okay must be the tensioner, so I picked up the full Gates kit with tensioner, pulley and belt. That fixed it for a couple of weeks, but then it started coming back. It wasn't "squealing" like you think of with a belt that is wearing out, but more of a consistent "squeak" or "chirp" which you could really only hear at idle or driving slowly. So, I went and get a top of the line Continental belt, but that one started squeaking within a matter of days! Finally said screw it and got this GM tensioner and went back to the Gates belt. It's been months and we're still squeak free. Lesson learned.

-Made a difference in my truck over the one I had bought at a local auto parts store. I will only use ACDelco parts for future purchases. I did verify the part number on the ACDelco website & by phone.-My old one was only less than a year old and making noise. Putting this tensioner on and checking the deflection in the belt (between pulleys) was absolutely perfect & ran without any noise. Did make a difference in the alternator dash gauge. Volts are showing where they should be..-Installation is very simple, maybe 10-15 minutes at the very most.-I would check your old belt for any damage & also check the other pulleys for any play or noise.-Great product and would buy again! Hope this helps.
