Giant Sequoias are our planet’s most massive living things; their size and majesty are awe-inspiring and utterly without equal in the plant kingdom. Visiting an old growth stand of Giant Sequoias is like walking among mighty columns supporting the cathedral of the skies. Indeed, no tree species in the world has sparked as much interest, reverence, and awe as the Giant Sequoia (a.k.a. Sierra Redwood or Big Tree). It's been called the "monarch of all conifers," "godlike giant of the Golden Age," and the "climax of American vegetation."

Ancient Giant Sequoias climb to heights of around 300 feet, and have massive, cinnamon-red trunks nearly 40 feet in diameter. These "vast structures of antiquity" have life-spans of more than 3,000 years, longer than any tree except the Bristlecone Pine. A hardy species, Giant Sequoias can grow in a surprisingly wide range of climates.

The Giant Sequoia is a mountain tree, growing at up to 9,000 feet in elevation. It is native exclusively to a very limited range along the western slopes of the Sierra-Nevada mountains in central California, where winters are cold and snowy and summers are hot and dry. Despite its limited natural range, the Giant Sequoia is a highly adaptable species. It is both cold hardy and heat tolerant, and can grow almost anywhere in the United States.

About Jonsteen's Grow Kits: Growing a tree from seed is a magical and fascinating experience for people of all ages. Our 100% guaranteed Grow Kits provide everything you need to germinate some of the world's largest and most interesting tree species from seed — seeds, growing medium, a mini-greenhouse, and detailed instructions, which lead you through the whole process, from cold-stratifying your seeds to germination and transplanting.

One of the seeds sprouted. It was precisely on time according to the instructions. Very excited to watch it grow.I’m not disappointed that none of the other seeds made it- I only wanted one seedling anyways.I was surprised at how little dirt and rocks came with the greenhouse. Also the lid doesn’t fit perfectly on top of the greenhouse. TBH, I’ve been highly suspicious from the start. But none of that matters because one of the seeds germinated! Five stars!

I waited a while to write my review to make sure my trees were going to survive long term. I ordered the seed kit on April 4th, and it came with 6 seeds. As soon as it arrived, I followed the instructions to the letter. After the cooling period in the refrigerator and about two weeks in the window, I had a sprout. About two weeks after the first I had a second seed sprout. They outgrew the original little greenhouse and after transplanting they are still doing great at 5 months. I water them just a little every few days and have a very light fertilizer mixed in. Very fun little project!

We bought one, and amour friends got one. We came to the conclusion that 4/5 of the seeds they give you are dead seeds, every time. Only one will grow. The one that began growing for us, after following all the directions, kept getting thrown around with all the floating substances in the soil they provide. It never got a chance to have a steady root system and the wiggly steam showed that.I would recommend not using the device they provide and putting the seed in a normal pot once removed from the freezer. Also water from the bottom up.

I see a lot of reviews of seeds not sprouting, so I figured I’d leave this review.Sequoia’s are one of the most temperamental seeds I’ve ever tried sprouting. If it doesn’t sprout for you, I highly doubt its “a bad seed.” I only grow my own plants by seeds and have a very high success rate, but when it comes to Sequoia’s they like to make me really work for them. The only times I succeeded at sprouting a Sequoia tree is actually manipulating a greenhouse effect rather than setting it in the fridge like what the instructions instruct you to do. I plant the seeds close to the top of the soil rather than directly on the top. I then set the tube next to a window that receives full sun for a partial of the day. I use a syringe to water only a few drops of hot water into the soil once the moisture in the tube decreases- making sure it’s causing condensation at all times (shown in the picture). It took about 2 weeks for a seed to finally sprout.Hope this helps for those having trouble.

I bought two of these kits and followed the instructions perfectly to a T on both, starting with one and then the other a few months later, and neither has sprouted after several months

I got these seeds In the middle of January and was able to get 6 out of the 10 seeds to fully germinate to small trees sitting in my window sill waiting for the frost to pass so I can move them outside. As far as germination schedule, I floated them in water for 24 hours, then put them in a damp paper towel in a plastic bag in the fridge for 14 days. After that I planted them very shallowly in small seed start pots and kept their soil moist and had germination popping on day 12-14 after planting. Since then they have grown strong.I would highly recommend these if you want to get started in growing trees like these, or if you are looking to break into an easy bonsai tree.

Wanted to grow something with my son and this was perfect. Simple and easy to follow instructions. Hardest part was waiting the 20 days in the fridge… The instructions said to give 15-45 day timeframe to sprout. Ours popped up after 12 days. Now to watch it grow. Well worth the money. Awesome!!!
