Your cart is empty. What is a Goethe Weather Ball Barometer and how do I read it?
This device predicts barometric weather changes by observing the rise and fall of liquid within the spout of a vented glass vessel. A low water level in the spout suggests “high pressure”, representing fair weather. A high water level in the spout suggests “low pressure” and forecasts poor weather conditions. While the storm glass will not indicate exact barometric pressure in numerical values, it is still regarded as an accurate monitor of air pressure changes. PLEASE NOTE: the stated height is only an approximation. This item is finished with a hand process that creates a varying finished height, which may be slightly higher or shorter than the stated height.
How do I set it up?
This device arrives empty and you must fill it with distilled water. We suggest using food coloring to change the color of the water. It comes with a small hose and syringe. Pull the hose out of packaging and stretch it to make it straight. Once you have straightened it as best as possible, you have to snake it down the neck of the glass. It is tricky but the only way to fill it! Once the hose is inside the main body, turn it upside down and use the syringe to fill it. Don't take the hose out, just disconnect the syringe from the hose. Fill it a little less than halfway. If you fail to get results you may have not put the right amount of liquid in it.

Bought this for my bf who meets all three of those. The item itself is a pretty shape to look at and a nice conversation piece. It is not easy to fill..if you get this for a child, plan to do that part yourself. You can use food coloring to make the liquid any color. It’s fun to see the level change in response to barometric pressure.

Really like this aside from not realizing it doesn’t come with any color. This had great instructions, but is easiest with two people to set it up. Works great!

Package came very conscientiously packed, given that this barometer is made of thin glass.Came with simple instructions on the set up. The instructions on how to coax the little rubber tube far enough down into the barometer worked perfectly, and it took no more than a few minutes to fill.Much aesthetically pleasing than a regular digital or analog barometer. Five stars!

I love it ! Had one when I was a child in the Jersey shore home. And it works ! Enjoy seeing the pressure going up and down. And now, I can make more sense of why my artificial hips and back hurt so when the pressure is low. Great to teach children about weather. Or just for the family to enjoy. I bought this as a replacement because I had one before that broke on the side tube (not from this seller). This fit perfectly in the stand for the one I was replacing. Was packaged very well! The hardest part is getting the tube down the tube..... Sounds weird but there is a syringe that has a tube- that tube goes down the side glass tube on the glass globe- that is how you get the water into the barometer.I like how the water moves up and down based on pressure. It is fragile since it is glass but it is made well with no sharp edges. I will absolutely buy again if this one breaks like my last one. (My last one from a different seller broke because someone played ball in the house and knocked it over.)

This is a lovely little item. It is a 1700s-era barometer that works by the difference in air pressure between the central chamber and the narrow tube that is open at the top. It is quite attractive. The instructions provided are clear. The necessary equipment to fill it with water is also provided in the package. It came securely packed. It is glass and somewhat delicate (I had no issues), and the company provides contact information in case it gets broken in the mail, which I thought was a very classy and customer oriented thing to do. Highly recommend. Great value for the price.
