Flat round piece of goatskin without hair. Thickness: Medium- approximately 0.015 of an inch. This equates to the approximate thickness of 4-5 sheets of printer paper.
All skins sold "AS IS". We do our best to eliminate skins that have possible defects; however, our prices are based on an "as is" basis. This means, on average, you can expect to lose one out of ten skins. Obviously the tightness during installation will alter this ratio, so figure this loss in your cost.

I used this in the restoration of and early 1900's Silverstone banjo. The banjo had no head so I had to replace it. The rim was deformed a small amount just due to its age so a synthetic head of a specific size wouldn't fit exactly right. I also wanted to make it sound similar to it's original sound, which would have been a skin head. I ordered this skin and it arrived on time. The size was accurate and it was nice and clean, with no fur remnants. It is a pain to get a skin on a banjo rim, but that is to be expected. After soaking the skin in warm water and working it for a bit, I did manage to get the skin on and get it to the right tightness after it dried. The banjo turned out beautiful and sounded and played well. I would recommend this for a banjo head for sure.

I ordered Medium, and that's what the barcode on the skin said.But this was no thicker than 1-2 sheets of paper - no way was it "4-5 sheets" thick, as claimed.I tried installing it anyway, maybe it will work if played very gently... ugh.
