Case is, as promised, heavy duty aluminum. Looks as if it would take a beating, which we don't plan to inflict on it.

All these little plastic pieces from the container were all over the place because it was broken up, and one piece somehow got stuck inside the scale and now I can't read the amount of weight

This a a fairly hefty scale. To test it I weighed myself on my proven accurate bathroom scale and then put a lat-pulldown bar on the hook of this scale, suspended it from the ceiling, and set the tare. The resulting difference between the two scales was within 0.1%. Mind you my weight uses about 1/8th the capacity of this unit. I do not have the means to test the upper end of the scale at the moment. The longer term plan is to use this for verifying engine weight on a hoist. It could also be used to verify wench tension (though I wish it had a peak hold for that).
