From adafruit: The BNO055 I2C implementation violates the I2C protocol in some circumstances. This causes it not to work well with certain chip families. It does not work well with Espressif ESP32, ESP32-S3, and NXP i.MX RT1011, and it does not work well with I2C multiplexers.

I found that in my code, whether it be C/C++ in Arduino IDE (Uno and Mega) or MicroPython for the Pico, I needed to change the I2C device address to 0x29 rather than the default 0x28. This is usually only required if you have another I2C peripheral attached to the bus.Hope this helps someone. Most likely there are other variables that may still be problematic.I have never had a problem with the Adafruit brand. These are obviously knock offs (e.g. GY-).

I have ordered this product on three separate occasions. It did not work the first time and I assumed it was my fault. It did not work the second time, and I gave the benefit of the doubt again. However, on the third occasion, it did not operate. This product is lackluster.

I spent hours and hours trying to get this to work. Would not show up on I2C regardless of which microcontroller I used. Then I found a review on another site where someone suggested soldering the two pins in the image and it WORKED! If you google this device, you will see these pins soldered on some of the product images. Hope this works for you!
