How did you come up with the idea for this product?
Hanataba is despite the name a Swedish invention. Hanataba means bouquet in Japanese and there is a reason why this little gadget has been given just that name. Almost 20 years ago I was travelling in Japan and visited a flower school. In Japan, flowers are not worked in the same way as in the Western world. I had an idea there and then to develop a tool or technical solution that binds a bouquet in a spiral without mastering this accepted abdominal technique.
I got caught up in the idea that the bouquet could be lifted out of the tool, machine or whatever it was going to be, but didn't get ahead. I was clear that it would take 2 levels/ discs with a number of holes in which the stems went through. With a twist, the spiral would be accomplished. But how do I get the bouquet off...
After many years, the redeeming idea came on a beautiful early summer day in a summer cottage area outside Malmö. During a coffee break when, as usual, I was thinking about things, it was suddenly clear. The intended "bouquet moth" does not need to be taken off the bouquet. It just needs to be designed so it becomes part of the bouquet! I immediately ran out into the storage room and started working on what became the first prototype (you can see it in the photo below) by Hanataba. This was in May 2018. In January 2020 it was premiered at Formex in Stockholm
The rest, as they say, is history.

What makes your product special?
The Hanataba Flower Twister transforms ordinary flowers into extraordinary arrangements in no time at all. You just choose your flowers, put the stems in your Bouquet Twister and and then twist. As simple as that :)!
We ran southern Swedens most famous flower school when we started Hanataba, so flowers have always been a great part of our lives. We love flowers and believe that flowers make everyday better, and that people in this fast moving world benefit from spending time some time being creative with flowers. Therefore we have created a unique online flower school that all our users get access to. There we share our expertise with our users creating new "recipies", inspos and tutorials, making it even more fun for you to use our Flower Twister!
What has been the best part of your experience?
The best part is definately to develop new innovative products, I just love coming up with new ideas and solutions to problems I see around me in society. Also, I started by myself, but now the whole family works in the business which is so much fun. I thought I wouldn't get to spend so much time with my kids when they grew up, but now I see them every day at work and we have a blast!

How does the Hanataba work?
1. Choose your favourite flowers
2. Adjust your Hanataba
3. Stick the flowers thru your Hanataba
4. Twist and your bouquet is done
-
Does the Hanataba come in different sizes?
Yes, the Hanataba comes in two different sizes, a large one with 19 holes, and a small one with 7 holes.
-
Can you use all types of flowers in your Hanataba?
Most flowers work perfect in your Hanataba, but of course, not all. To make sure that the stems are not too thick for the Hanataba please use the stem checker that comes with every Hanataba.
-
What is the silicone disk used for?
The silicone disk is designed to secure thinner stems in place. You place it on the bottom or top of your Hanataba. It's very helpful and makes it easier to use your Hanataba.
-
Do you have to fill all the holes of the Hanataba to create a nice looking bouquet?
No, you don't have to, but I would say that you get the best results if you do. You can also insert more than one stem into each hole if it fits.
