It does make noise and probably fine for a boat "horn" or "sound producting device" as required for safety but this is not a foghorn sound. This is a stainless steel version of the plastic noise making "party favor". I think the device would need to be larger (diameter?) to get a deeper sound to be even a little like a foghorn. I am keeping it because it works as well a a whistle and lower pitch than a whistle.

This looks beautiful, the finish and craftsmanship is high quality, but the sound... more like a kazoo than a fog horn. Makes a nice gift for a boating person as novelty, but for a sound maker on a boat? You could make fake fart sounds with your underarm that are louder than this. Worth buying? Sure - as a novelty.

Fits in a very small pocket and has a very decent volume for its size. The sound of it I find not very impressive, more like a loud and obnoxious kids toy. At least it will get your attention in most cases.
