My first purchase of this item was 35 years ago ... have used it with a 10# splitting maul every year since. I replaced it this year -- it saved the maul handle when I made a bad hit and for sure when my grandsons made bad hits learning how to split firewood. Great product IMO.

These handle Savers are worth their weight in gold. I do construction and work them pretty hard, and have had to replaced more handles that I can remember. I now have them on all of my axes and sledgehammers and haven't had one break on me since. If you use an axe or a sledgehammer on a regular basis they are definitely a time and money saver. Nothing worse than getting halfway through a job or project and your tools break, and you have to put a new handle on or get a new tool. The installation is easy, does take some force but it pushes on real snug which is good because you don't have to worry about it moving around on you. I definitely recommend.

The main hole only fit one of my hammers on all the other ones. The hole was much too big.

If you follow the instructions to boil it first to expand it, it goes on fairly easy but once it cools it isn't coming off. This is critical tp protect your handle from that one time you miss and take a chip out it.

Having broken numerous ax handles in my life it was nice to finally get something that works

Super hard rubber felt harder than car tire rubber. I was worried about it working it way off but after fighting with it and using soapy water to work it on there. I'm pretty sure I won't be replacing anymore handles ever again

I always wrap the sledge hammers and axes with black tape to protect the tool from the times when I miss the target and the handle the target. That has always worked okay. Just add more tape as the tape gets messed up from a miss. Well, using a sledge and wedge to split wood, tape was not good enough. I missed a few times and the tape didn't get damaged but I could see that the handle was getting crooked. The wooden handle was getting broken under the tape. The black tape helped against the wooden handle from getting gouged but the misses and the handle hitting the wedge broke the handle. This big rubber sleeve should absorb the blunt force damage that the black tape couldn't handle.
