So let me say, at first I thought this thing was so well made. It has a nice aluminum or metal type body, good sound for the buttons, great movement and an extending arm. However, the bummer comes in with the extended arm cannot hold itself up and it broke quickly. It still gets played with but I had high hopes at the beginning.

Grandson loves this excavator! The perfect gift. Durable and fun. Uses it in the sand box, in the house and at the beach. Highly recommend this for a two or 3 plus year old.

I did not have high expectations when ordering this, figuring it would just be a fun outdoor sandbox toy. But actually it is quite nice and I am excited to see my grandson rip into it on Christmas. He just loves all kinds of equipment and this one is a little different than your run-of-the mill truck. I think he will love the boom (at age 3 he knows more lingo than I do, for sure. Ok, maybe it isn't a lifetime metal Tonka Truck - but it was not bought with that expectation, either.UPDATE: This has become my 3 1/2 year old grandson's FAVOR:ITE Christmas toy! It is much sturdier that first expected and has easily stood up to being pulled around by the boom, repeatedly pulling out and pushing the boom in. We may slyly remove the batteries - the sounds are a bit much - and loud - but otherwise, absolutely tickled pink with this toy.

At first it appears to be a very high quality toy. The arm extends, lifts and lowers, the hook lowers and raises, and the top part rotates 360 degrees. The bucket and trailer also both feel of good quality.We gifted this less than 24 hours ago. Within the first hour of play this morning the string broke. It snapped right in the middle and I was unable to feed it through the front part to reconnect it to the other half. Then my son rolled up the string inside the toy so there is no way of recovering it. As I went to write this review, my younger two managed to rip the arm right off.If you plan to buy this for one, careful and mild mannered individual, it’s perfect! If you have a young one that is obsessed with cranes and turns anything they can find into a hook to lift things with, this may quickly result in heartbreak as it has in my home.

The item cam in broke. And this was for Easter for my grandson, there was no time to send it back to get another. He would have been very unhappy his sister got something and he did’t. I was not very happy with this experience.
