If you're replacing the drain, this tool is a must-have. It made tightening the new drain super easy. The only downside is now I have a tool I used once and will probably never use again.

My tub drain was very difficult to remove, this will assist in placing a new drain but ineffective in removing a very stubborn drain

Fit right into the drain, popped a thick screwdriver in the lateral holes and the old drain was easily and effectively removed with a few twists.

This tool is far more helpful at inserting the drain and here’s why in my opinion. The drain cross members deteriorate, especially with heavily mineralized water. They are weak and brittle and break. But for the replacement it is the best, bar none. It minimizes any chance of damage while inserting the new drain as might happen with pliers or other implements. Great tool for the job.

Fit my drain perfectly. As my dad said, "always use the right tool for the job". This is the tool you need.Worked great. Don't use it much, but friends and family borrow it.

I removed a 25 yr old tub drain unit and will likely will never use it again! However, trying to do the job with say a pair of needle nose pliers would have been impossible! The old hardened plumbers putty between the tub and the drain plus the putty was partially on the threads, required a fair amount of force. Also installing the new unit required effort to compress and squeeze out the new fresh putty. Pliers would have scratched and chewed up the finish for sure! Plus you might even break off the metal stringers on the bottom of the drain unit since all the force using pliers, is just on two stringers instead of all four. So get this wrench and make it an clean job!The tool itself is solid metal with a hole for a screw driver or you can use a pipe wrench. As mentioned, you will need a good amount of leverage to get the old unit out so its important you get a good grip on the wrench.
