For bending j-hooks used in trapping these do the job much better than lineman's pliers or water pump pliers. I find them a time saver as well as very effective at closing the loop on home made as well as purchased j-hooks. The would probably work well on s-hooks also. Money well spent.To make a "perfect loop" insert a small bolt onto j-hook prior to bending it with this tool. I've used it ~ 50 times with no signs of wear.

Works good on opening and closing J-hooks which was my intended use, haven’t tried them on s-hooks

Cheap and flimsy. Not "Heavy Duty" by any means. A piece of 3/8" gas line shoved on for handles. No way this would work for crimping H.D. J hooks or S hooks. Trust me I wanted them to work and tried. For $20.00 just go buy a 20 pair of pliers at the Dollar store!
