Heli Coils are cheap and easy to use, but far from the best solution.

Given that you remember where you put the thread repair kit you bought to make your last repair, you can just buy these inserts separately and avoid buying another set of tools that you can't find. They work great and you never seem to get enough inserts in the original repair kit, or they get separate from the kit and lost somewhere in your tool box.
