I think this stand is excellent. I has protection that is ample at all points of contact on my Conn 8D. It also allows me to leave the instrument out of the case which I like because I have made the assumption that this might allow the instrument to dry out better than closed in a case (untested hypothesis, but seems possible). More importantly, I can pick up the instrument and not waste time reattaching my screw-on bell each time I want to play. Solid, functional and elegant.

My son has played French horn for years and when they have a break he had to put his horn in the case. With this he can safely set it on this and take his break and go right back to playing. Very small but very sturdy.

Several friends have this stand and I'm glad I bought it. They take their stands to rehearsals, but I mostly use mine at home. It lets me leave my horn out of the case with the bell assembled, making it easier to sit down and practice from day to day. But it's great that it collapses and has a case for transport.

I have trusted Hercules stands for years, and this horn stand is no exception. It is sturdy, stable, compact, easy to open, easy to close. The areas that contact the horn are protected with dense foam, so scratching and denting are not a concern. It also comes with a carry bag, though I just put mine in a backpack with my music binder. Seriously. When closed, it takes up roughly the space of a 24oz soda bottle. Hercules continues to make a solid product. You’ll be happy with it.

A trumpet fits in your lap. It will lay on your chair seat. Both true for the French Horn, with caveats. The horn wants to fall out of your lap, particularly if you are making notes on your music. It fits on a chair, but the slightest bump will send it off. Face it, you need a horn stand. There are not many options out there either, and the unique shape of the instrument prevents the use of the simple stands used for trumpets, flugels, and trombones.This stand requires a bit of unfolding to set up, but it is not complicated. It does take a bit of space, and it helps to have room to orient it for sensible horn placement. But because it is complex, it is also a tad heavy and bulky (folded). I is not going to fit anywhere in a horn case. It comes with a nice drawstring bag, but that isn't made for external carrying for other than a short period here and there. Also, the horn really only fits well on it in one position, otherwise, the tubing tends to slip under the pad at the top of the upright.Like I said, ya gotta have a stand, and this one works pretty well. The price is fair given the complexity. Note, you won't use this for short rests in the music. Its really for longer rests, breaks, or for when you need both hands free.

Perfectly holds my Conn 8D. Folds into a nice compact size. Does NOT fit into the bag they sent with the stand though.
