Older trumpets can develop slack around the pistons from years of use. This oil is thicker but still is slick. Works well.

The absolute best valve oil.

I've been playing trumpet for 40 years. I've used most every oil out there over the years. This Hetman product is phenomenal. It lasts forever and is incredibly smooth and fast. Their (tuning) slide oil is also incredible. I will not be buying any other brand of oil. It is difficult to express in words how pleased I am with this product. You'd think oil is oil, how can it be that different? Try it and you'll see. Be prepared to be blown away.

I recently started to play my 40-year old Bundy Trumpet again. I was using the oil that was in the case all those years and I was getting frustrated at my playing. Granted, it had been a long time since I played but this was ridiculous. Every note was off; I kept "misfiring" and producing false tones that sounded like squeals. This was consistently happening even after practicing for long periods of time. The one thing that I was noticing was that my valves were sticking and not functioning properly. I always had taken good care of my horn. There is nothing wrong with these valves, they were just sticky. Even after oiling them gratuitously, the very next day, I would have the same experience. I did research in to the matter and discovered that most valve oil products are sub par, and that, older horns require a thicker oil grade. As a result of my research I bought the Hetman Lubricant 3 oil for its thicker viscosity. I flushed out my previous oil and re-oiled the valves with this new oil. It has been over a week, and, each time I pick up the horn it plays perfectly. The valves go up and down their full course without any resistance and my tones are more accurate producing a much more pleasing experience with the horn. Now, if I play a weird tone I only have myself to blame; it just means I need more practice.

Been using Hetman for years. Works well as usual. Though, I do not like the new bottle at all. The quality is a lot worse. The only plus is that you can now see how much oil there is left in the bottle. Hope the seller can update the image with the new bottle.

I've tried seven different valve oil name brands. Hetman's #3 has performed the best on both new and older instruments. Provides smoothest action, fixes stckiness on poorly lapped pistons, and lasts the longest between oilings. The clear winner.

I bought this valve oil to use in a trumpet I'm borrowing from a friend because the horn has been getting Hetman for years and it's not a great idea to suddenly switch out the oil without thoroughly cleaning the valves. I'm a convert. The action is so smooth, and the valves are actually a little quieter. I'm going to do the thorough valve clean on my three horns and switch them all from a less expensie (though adequate brand) to Hetman as well. About $4 a bottle more, but worth it.
