Your cart is empty.HHIP 3/8" Taper 3/4 Spiral flute pipe reamer is designed for reaming holes to be tapped with American Standard Taper Pipe Taps (NPT). Right hand cut tapered to 3/4" per foot. Large end diameter is .606. Small end diameter is .540. Flute length is 1-1/16". Overall length is 2-9/16".

Can you just drill a hole and run an NPT tap through it? Sure. But this makes the threads nicer, and they seal better. If you run it in all the way, it even leaves a little radius and spotface to make the threads look nicer and work a bit better.I ran it by hand with a tap wrench. I think in my material (stainless) it would have chattered if I ran it under power. In softer stuff like aluminum or brass you can probably get away with it. Use plenty of cutting oil, like any reamer.

Anyone performing their own NPT female threads will tell you it's hard to drill a good starter hole since the final thread is tapered. This insures that the tap will enter the hole properly and not overstress the tap, assuming you use fluid and follow procedures.
