About this item

  • 100 percent pure silk
  • Absorbent
  • No Lint
  • Compressible

Hodge Silk Swabs are premium swabs made from 100 percent silk for removing moisture from woodwind instruments after each use. Hodge uses silk because it is absorbent, has no lint and is compressible. The swabs are large enough to wick the moisture out of the larger part of the bore, but compressible enough to pull through the neck. They pull through the fully assembled instrument. They do not leave lint in the keys. They are not stored inside the instrument so the moisture does not remain. Hodge swabs are regularly recommended by repairmen for optimum care of your instrument. The silk saxophone swabs are designed to go all the way through the fully assembled saxophone. There is no need to remove the neck or carry a separate swab for the neck. This is a great convenience.

This cloth actually works better for my tenor sax than the larger one I bought that was designed for a tenor. It fits through the neck and mouthpiece better than the larger cloth, and the cord is long enough to use with a tenor too. It dries much faster than other cloths I have used. This is the best way to clean out your sax, especially if you keep it on a stand when not playing it. But it's also great to use before jamming one of those felt rods down the horn and packing it in your case. I simply wrap it in a dry cloth before packing it into my case so the case doesn't get damp, then hang it out to dry when I get home.

Works exactly as intended. I use it for both the neck and body of my instrument. It never gets stuck and it does a good job collecting any moisture.

So far the best swab. It does not absorb moisture but holds moisture on the surface of the swab and drags it out of the horn. It pulls through easily and the moisture (no it's not spit) dries quickly on the swab. The "absorbing" swabs ... just don't absorb much moisture no matter what they say.A strong hint ... Buy the tenor version for all your horns and shorten the string on the weight for each horn. The weight on the string will go all the way through alto and tenor, including the mouthpiece, at least all of mine. The tenor swab also works great on clarinet, except for the mouthpiece. If that matters, put on a smaller weight.Another tip: I also use one of those fuzzy "Stuff It" things for gigs, without swabbing, along with a dollar bill folded to fit under the g# key on gigs. It's fast for a quick get-away. OK ... I have been told by at least two repair geniuses not to do that. Two points: I've never had a problem with my g# pad sticking, EXCEPT when I did not use the dollar bill ... And the fuzzy has never caused a problem with my horn. Oh, the criticism on the fuzzy??? It does not absorb and holds moisture against the pad. No, it does not absorb, it wicks moisture away from pads and brass ... And you wash it occasionally.

This swab works well. It can be used from neck to bell with no snagging.

I have one daughter who has played the sax for 6 years and one who is just starting. We were looking for a better quality swab that did not bust and was easy to pull through for an eleven year old. This worked great. The ones that come in the cleaning kits break and tear so easily. We are thus far very satisfied with this purchase.

Despite the title of alto saxophone swab, this swab works for my tenor and soprano in addition to the alto. The counterweight makes cleaning the saxophone a breeze! Definitely worth the affordable price.

Takes all moisture out of my saxophone, and cleans pads well. Great purchase!

I'm really pleased with this, it's a great design. You pop the weight into the bell, tip it upside down and the cord appears out of the other end. The silk slips smoothly through the saxophone and cleans it very well. It's much easier than using the fluffy brush/pad that I had been using. With the pad, I always felt I was having to apply too much pressure to push it in and pull it out, and was worried about damaging the horn. This silk swab is much better and I highly recommend it.
