About this item

  • Made from pure silk, a very effective material for removing moisture
  • Absorbent, wicking moisture out of the instrument quickly
  • No lint to get caught in the keys or tone holes
  • Compressible

Hodge Silk Swabs are premium swabs made from pure silk for removing moisture from woodwind instruments after each use. Hodge uses silk because it is absorbent, has no lint, and is compressible. They do not leave lint in the keys. They are not stored inside the instrument so the moisture does not remain. Hodge swabs are regularly recommended by repairmen for optimum care of your instrument. The silk piccolo swabs are great for any level of flutist. They are soft enough for polishing the instrument and absorbent enough to soak up the water when swabbing the inside of the instrument. Simply thread through the end of any cleaning rod.

This is the perfect size for piccolo. Very absorbent and quick to use. I wish I had gotten one sooner. It feels like high quality silk, so it is a great price as well.

Normally, I might give this swab four stars. The fit is a bit awkward (if you tighten the roll/press/fold,) it bunches in the middle, and dooesn't end up tubular, which would be the ideal for cleaning an instrument that is mostly tubes. Other than that, it is well made, perfect stitching, solid materials, and not wastefully packed.I mostly chose 5 stars rather than 4 because I'm sick of reviewers complaining because there is no attached string. Of course there isn't. There isn't one indication in the item description there would be.. I don't know how people justify trashing a product for a feature that is a known part of it's form factor.

Small enough to fit in the piccolo. Quality silk and washes well. Does clean the instrument very well.

I love these piccolo swabs. I own a Cocus Wood Keefe piccolo and it works great. I bought the black one because my college pupil “borrowed” my pink one. It is the perfect material and it does not get stuck if you use it properly. Take the top edge, thread it maybe 1” into the eye of the tuning rod. Drop the other end into the top widest part of the piccolo body and pull it through the narrow end. Then clean the head. Black is basic.

I would say I love this, but the silk does have a tendency to tear easily no matter how carefully one inserts the metal cleaning rod into the cloth. However, it is about the only thing that I have found that actually fits into the body of a piccolo other than cheesecloth and cheesecloth is a pain to work with, in my opinion.

Thin and absorbent, and the tapered end makes it easy to thread through to ckeaning rod. Cleans easily and thoroughly without getting stuck.

I’ve had Hodge brand swabs for years. I have one for my Flute and Bassoon. I got this one for my Piccolo as the swab they gave me was not the best. This brand is really great, affordable and with prime shipping it comes rather quickly.

It will do the job, but it is not as pictured. I ordered this thinking it was a cloth with a string attached to drop through the piccolo to clean it. It is jus a piece of cloth...I'll have to attach my own string. I would give it 5 stars because it cleans well, but it is falsely advertised.
