I replaced my backyard wooden garden gate with a metal one. The normal ADT magnetic switch which looked like Honeywell 951WG-WH no longer worked reliably for a couple of reasons. (1) It was not rated for metal gates, (2) its magnet was small and not powerful enough. Also, the magnet was installed slightly off-center with the switch. As a result, any slight rattling of the door (with a hard wind or anyone testing it) would trigger a false alarm. They had to be replaced.I ordered this product because it was rated for metal gates, and the magnet has a larger surface area and was much stronger. As such, the misaligned magnet and switch holes on the gate did not affect the switch performance and rattling the door hard did not cause a false trigger and engage the alarm.A couple of caveats; this switch requires two large holes (3/4" diameter). Drilling a 3/4" hole into a metal frame is not as easy as a 1/4 " hole. The drill bits usually have at least a 1/2" diameter shaft which may not fit most battery-operated hand drills. But then, when done, the switch and the magnet fit nicely and snuggly and have a larger overlap. Also, not sure why the description does not state the fact that this is a normally-closed (NC) switch. Which means when the door is closed (normal mode), the switch is closed. This makes sense for alarm switches as the potential perpetrator cannot cut the switch wire and open the door because a cut wire creates an open circuit and triggers the alarm.I like the screw-in terminals for wire attachments, it is much cleaner and easier than wire nuts or soldering. Make sure you don't unscrew the terminal screws too much as the screws may fall out and get lost easily. Just one turn should be enough.I also would have liked a black or metal grey color instead of Brown and white. This switch is primarily advertised for metal gates, brown color seems odd and more suitable for wood. I had to use black touch up paint.I am very satisfied with this product.

Just what is needed for sensing open and closing of a steel door. The housing centers the magnet and sensor in a large enough hole in the steel frame that it is not affected by the steel and works reliably.
