The connector seemed decently solid although not quite as stout as the OEM Ford connector it replaced. The molded cable was nice and the length was good for my purpose.Installation was easy. I just drilled a 2" hole in the steel bumper next to the license plate and then used self tapping screws to attach the connector. I then ran the attached molded cable to the wiring harness where the OEM trailer wires were and soldered / heat shrinked them matching like colors. The problem I encountered was that the color code is different inside the connector than any standard trailer wiring scheme. It's even different than the color code I got from Hopkins' website for this very connector. I don't remember the exact color code but I do remember that the center pin was yellow when it should be purple or black. Here's what the standard code should be...Ground - White12V supply - Red (or orange)Reverse - Purple (or black)Brake - BlueLeft turn - YellowRight turn - GreenTail - BrownA standard wiring diagram can be found here...http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx

High quality at a low price. Exactly what I needed and is definitely an improvement over the OEM style.

Dealer put my 7 pin receiver under the bumper on my Jeep. Every time I went off roading it would get torn off. I almost had to leave my camping trailer one time.Cored a hole in my Smitybilt steel bumper and inserted this in the hole. Works like a charm. Everyone wonders why this is not a standard configuration for an off-road vehicle.

Replaced factory 7-pin socket on a 2011 Mercedes ML350 with this one, as I wanted to upgrade the charge and ground wire size to send more power to the trailer. The ML350 has a slightly awkward arrangement where the socket points down to the pavement at a pretty good angle - however, the factory socket held on to the trailer's cord without issue. The Hopkins socket loosens up and we lose electrical connection to the trailer (no lights, no trailer brakes) after just several minutes of driving. You can see in the photo what we had to do to get to our destination with connection intact. We've been unable to get this product to work satisfactorily in this regard. I will replace it with a Curt socket.
