The quartz movement chimes on each hour with an optional nighttime chime shut-off. Requires three AA sized batteries (not included).

I spent $250 dollars on one of Howard Millers other clocks which was really nice but was a little bigger than expected so I returned it. I thought that going with a more metal & traditional look would suit me better. When I found this clock I new it was just right. When I opened the box I very pleased with the look and the foot print. It is a very beautiful clock and not overly invasive in my living room. The only complaint I might have, if you can call it that is that the sound of the chimes not as nice as in the first clock but for over $100 cheaper and made of metal, what can you expect. I didn't expect to use the chimes anyways. I probably would not have noticed if not for having the first clock. It says that the dial is suppose to look aged but all that means is that the edge has a subtle yellow tint. Also, the decorative crest does not look quite as detailed in person as it does on the picture. In the picture it looks like casted iron and what I got was stamped steal, But still nice. Over all, VERY HAPPY.... This is the clock that will hold down my mantel for years to come.

Love the clock, my children got it for my husband and I for our anniversary. Only thing we took the battery out of the chime part, cause it sounded like it had the flu.The clock itself is beautiful and nice and heavy

We wanted something to replace our very loud ticking mantel clock we inherited from a parent's divorce. This fit the bill from an aesthetics perspective and fit in nicely with the rest of our décor. However, the chime is EXTREMELY digital sounding which is a shame since we both love the kind of chime advertised. If there wasn't a turn-off switch for the chime, we would have had to return it. Otherwise, it's a gem!

I love this clock but very disappointed that it came without the box being secured by tape.The box was actually torn and open.Luckily no parts had been lost although the back of the clock was off. I am hoping there will be no problems with the clock as it is really attractive.

I love everything about this clock. It has a big sound as if it was a large clock that chimes every hour on the hour. Its beautiful. Best gift Idea.

Great mantle clock, face is large (5-6" across) so you can see the time from anywhere in the room. I didn't think we'd like the chime but it's really quite pleasant so we've left it on. Lovely clock!!

We were quite pleased with this clock until several months after purchase, while wrapping it up for a house move, we noticed a tiny label under the base of the wooden plinth warning that the product may contain substances that may cause cancer, birth defects etc, We queried this with the company who stated that the label is there to satisfy california law. THE CLOCK HAS A DECENT TONE. THEIR REPLY DIDN'T.

Beautiful Clock, had a bit of trouble getting the chimes set properly, but besides that it was the correct dimensions I wanted and the look and keeping time of the clock was great

Bought this clock as a gift and was embarrassed by the sound of the chimes. It sounds like a tinny recording of actual chimes. It does look nice but would keep the chimes turned off.
