Just got it delivered today. Looks like it was repackaged but boxed well. I assume it was a returned unit. Works fine. No wi-fi connectivity, no scanner, no fax, etc. IMHO a fantastic value for $70. If it fits your needs go for it. I only use laser printers. Got my fill of ink jets and refuse to own one.

Keep in mind that if you buy this printer, or any other HP product, the device will not function until you register with HP, create an account on their site, and download their app. The printer is connected to my computer, the computer recognizes it, already had the software driver, yet the display on the printer says "to enable printing" I have to visit the HP setup website and download software that I don't need and give them all my personal information. I get it that "data-mining-to-sell-to-advertisers" is the underlying business model for everything these days, but this is unacceptable to me, so I returned it, and will not buy an HP product again. Say NO to apps and creating accounts!

Out of the box it was easy to setup, just follow the dialog on screen and connect it to your network with a ethernet cable. Its compact size is perfect, it fits well into my home office. It has two input trays that accept basically any size of paper, the output tray works as it should to catch what’s been printed. From modern web browsers and operating systems its print dialog options feature multiple print quality settings, and though it only prints in black and white, colorful images are still able to perceived well in monochrome. You can basically pull the trays of this printer apart from either end, which easily allows you to clear any paper jam you may encounter. Overall, for the price, you can’t beat this printer in the number of features it has and how functional it is.

I want warn others that this problem with installation. When I went to install print to my computer. The website in the instructions was not HP. Bit looks like it, but it was a scam. I called the number and the person downloaded malware. Make sure it is HP and not another a look-alike. I have just got my computer back and still don't know if the printer is any good. Waiting for someone that is technically savy to install.

The description says it has an Auto Duplex. But the printer does not have an auto duplex, so can't print 2-sided pages automatically.It doesn't have Wifi, but I knew that and thought that was the only reason it was cheap. But it's cheap because it has no duplex and false info in the description.

I find that even though I have an inkjet printer, having a laser printer is very handy, especially when there are larger printing jobs to do. I have an old HP LaserJet 2200DN that has been a workhorse for 25 years. It was definitely showing its age. I saw the HP LaserJet 4001N and decided to try it. It is very fast, much faster than the old printer. It is light and responsive. It seems to produce very sharp and clear text and shadings of grey very well. My only slight complaint is that the literature was not clear that the LaserJet 4001N does not do automatic duplex. It will do manual duplex, but that is a bit of a far cry from automatic duplex. On the other hand, I am retired now and don't actually print that much, so this was not a killer for me. Otherwise, I like the printer and would recommend it for those who are not bothered by having no automatic duplex.
