I’ve used this windicator for about 3 hunts now and it works pretty well. This is the first powder type wind indicator I’ve ever used but I was a little let down by how much powder actually came out. It’s more than enough to tell what the wind was doing. The powder doesn’t have any smell.

In short, this works great but the bottles have so much powder in them that the first few uses blast powder clumps out, which don't disperse in the wind as desired. Once the bottle has been used a bit, it works perfectly.

Works as advertised, better than I expected in fact - tons of powder comes out in a steady stream, then dissipates into the air in a giant puff of smoke - great product.I also bought one of the competing products, and was really disappointed in it. I took a photo side by side to show how the two work compared to one another - the Windicator rocked. The other brand... didn't even come close. (I wasted five bucks on the other brand - hopefully you won't have to). I took photos at the start and finish of the squeeze so no one can argue I didn't do this test justice. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get the competition to perform nearly as well as Windicator.

A hunting buddy had some of this stuff on a recent elk hunt. I had not thought to look for something like this. Many times have I picked up the finest sand or dirt I could find and tossed it in the air to get a direction of the wind. Most of the time it's so coarse it just falls. If the wind was strong enough to blow the sand/dirt I wouldn't need to determine the direction. This is a very fine white powder, odorless of course. A squeeze of the bottle sends some into the air. It looks like smoke. And of course the gentlest breeze will move it. There are applications besides hunting. For example before I retired, I worked in a large chemical complex and there was always spray painting of equipment somewhere. Where to park my truck? Toss sand/dirt/grit into the air and try to figure out which way the wind is blowing and park somewhere not down wind to the painting. This stuff would work great for that. Anyway it's now a fixture in my hunting pack.

Need for wind direction! Any brand works but this was cheapest found. Shipping was a little slow for Amazon.

Good stuff. Super helpful in mountain conditions where the wind always seems to be shifting. I can't believe I used to go out on spot and stalk bow hunts in the mountains without it. Save yourself some heartache and improve your odds. Hunter Specialties makes some great products and you can't go wrong with this purchase but a lot can go wrong in the field without this purchase. Good luck out there-
