This is thee best well water filter for my well which has an estimated mostly 1 micron and possibly less very fine sediment/silt in the water.For years, I used to see a very noticeable silt film on my bathroom sink, toliet, and bathtub every week. After installing this filter, I don't.For 3 to 4 years, I tried numerous different types and brands of 1 Micron pleated, non-pleated, and string wound polypropylene water filters. Also, I tried a 0.5 Micron Carbon Block Filter from another manufacturer. That filter (1) did not filter the silt well, (2) gave me an unacceptable big pressure drop, and (3) the tank didn't fill with as much water as with using this filter.I use a Hyrdronix 10" Clear 4.5" Body, 1" Black Cap w/PR Water Filter Housing (PN# HF-45-10CLBK10PR).

This 1 micron and the 5 micron version have been used as whole house for my well water and make a huge difference. I have 2 in series, what a difference in my water quality. I take them out after a month and rinse with my pressure washer and get another 30 days out of them. I only do this 3 times max, and then replace. Using 2 of the 1 micron version does reduce our available water pressure/flow enough to be noticeable but not enough to be a problem.

I bought this filter last year and have been happy. I did a tremendous amount of research and determined this filter has the best specs, such as carbon capacity. The amount of carbon in a filter is really important, because that's what you are buying--grams of carbon.I use this in a 2-stage system with the Hydronix SDC-45-1001 as the 1st stage. Since I use it only for drinking water, I change the sediment filter annually and the carbon filter every other year. The CB-45-1001 is rated for 20,000 ga. If I drank 2 ga/day, the carbon capacity would be consumed after 25 years. So, changing the CB-45-1001 every other year should be quite conservative. Greg J says he uses 2 of these in series and changes them every 3 months to filter well water for his whole house. I can imagine that, as I remember my parents' home was served by a well and the water smelled like it came from the septic tank. The fact that he is using these to filter well water for his whole house is a testament to their capacity. In my case, I am simply filtering out the chlorine taste of high-quality municipal water, and only for drinking. So, I should be able to get many, many more months from the filters than Greg.
