I had never heard of ICE filters before, but they are being distributed (may even be the same company?) as Desmond, whose rails and other area compatible "rigging" hardware I've used for several years, (especially during a multiple image panorama phase I went through), and feel are top quality. In the situation I set up for this test, the sun is just out of the image, shining into the lens from the left side of the tree. So the difference in contrast shows the level of reflection reduction that the coating is doing. The Ice filter has higher overall contrast and a bit better tonality in the darker side of the palm tree than the other filter shown (which had tested in the top tier in a more extensive test I did earlier in the year)—so ICE is doing a great job with the coating technology on their filters. I have not had the filter long enough to have a sense of how durable the coatings are.I'm a strong believer in having a filter on my lenses, unless I am shooting indoors. I've destroyed maybe a dozen filters over the 50 plus years I've been a photographer; in pretty much every case except one, the lens was not damaged at all...Mechanically, the filter is smooth to screw on and off. Ultimately, I do prefer brass rings to aluminum, (and ICE may make a filter series that uses brass; as machining has gotten more precise, the difference is less than it used to be though). I am quite happy with this filter, and will look at what ICE has to offer when it's time to buy more.

Another impressive filter from ICE (aka Desmond). These are nicely made filters made of glass, the frames are sturdy and the threads are well machined. I use this filter for protection on my lens. I usually use a UV or skylight filter for this purpose. I always pass a #2 pencil along the threads before screwing it on to the lens for easy removal.

I am not the person to pick up that miniscule detail that other photographers pick up, don’t have those eyes. Though I do notice some differences I can’t say I notice too much difference otherwise. The filter works, it will definitely protect the lens, that no matter what is always a priority, the rest is secondary. It also threads on very easily. I feel maybe it reduces some light pollution during night shots but it’s hard for me to say for sure, when the weather warms, I will test it more. It is well-made. There are no issues otherwise that I was able to notice. I think the part that is the most important to me is that it will protect the lens. It’s solid for that.

This filter works well to cut glare from UV light. It came packaged in a sturdy plastic case too, so it arrived unscathed. The filter twists onto the lens just like any other standard lens filter does. I got the 52mm for my micro four thirds camera and even on my small bodied camera you can tell the difference between the glare with and without the filter. It's most noticable on reflection surfaces or scenes with a lot of direct light sources. With more diffused lighting it has a subtle affect on contrast in some photos. Overall, similar to others I've tried and a good addition to my photography bag. Now I can keep a filter on this lens permanently to help add a layer of extra scratch protection under the lens cap.

This filter isn't bad, but I feel like there are better options for the price. The first thing that I noticed was how thin the glass is. It feels like it will break quite easily. The machining isn't great either, it makes me feel nervous screwing a lens hood on and off the filter. Overall, it isn't a bad filter. The coating actually seems to be effective at reducing haze. I haven't noticed any issues with flare even when pointed into bright sunlight. This filter is mostly just being used as a protective filter for my lens right now since I haven't noticed any downsides to having it on all the time. As of the writing of this review, the filter is $39.95, I feel like for this amount of money there are better options out there.

The main reason I ordered this filter was to preserve the resale value of the $1000 Nikon lens I just purchased. A scratch on the glass of the lens, even though it doesn't affect the quality of the pictures it takes, will seriously reduce the price anyone will pay for the lens. It is very easy to touch the front glass of the lens by accident when trying to take the lens cover off when it is already off. This is likely to leave a fingerprint on the lens and it is very easy to scratch the lens when trying to clean the finger print off. It is much better to clean the finger print off the filter, if you scratch it, no big deal. This filter threaded easily onto the front of my lens and I found I don't have to tighten it too much for it to be difficult to remove. There was no grittiness or the tight then loose feeling you get when threading a poorly made filter onto your lens. The lens cover snapped onto the filter and remained securely in place.I will have to try a few with/without outdoor photos to see if it really reduces the dreaded "blue haze". I am really anxious to get some pictures taken through this filter and my new lens.

I got this for night shots around a city. There is so much light pollution that bleeds into the photos. This does help cut that down, even better than just reducing ISO or stepping down in stops. One thing I was hoping and haven't gotten to try yet is if it will cut down the appearance of haze when shooting long-distance landscapes during the day. But I think I will have to get back to the Alps for that opportunity. In the day time, this does give more lens flare, but I actually like that. Nice quality, very thin frame, no strange aberrations in the glass. Compared to some very high-priced UV/IR filters I have seen from astronomical societies and such, this will get you 90% of what you are hoping for at a fraction of the cost. I would definitely recommend this filter.

I have no idea what a “Hot Mirror†is, I picked this up hoping to just reduce some UV ingress into my RF200-800 lens, but there were some abnormalities in my photos I just couldn’t get rid of, that I don’t see in other IR filters.
