Striking the proper pH balance in your pool water is critical for safe and enjoyable swimming which is why many pool owners may find the need to use an alk increaser from time to time. Generally speaking, you'll need to increase pool alk whenever the pH drops below 7.4 or when alk levels drop below 80ppm. Ideally, you'll always want alk to range between 80 and 120ppm and should you dip below this you'll need to use a pool alk increaser. When alk is too high, your pool water is equally unsafe and scales will begin to form on your pool and pool equipment. Granular alk increaser can help to prevent these problems by stabilizing the pool pH and ensuring that your pool is safe for swimming. More importantly, maintaining a balanced pH by effectively administering an alk increaser also ensures that your pool water is refreshing and enjoyable on even the hottest summer day. The vast majority of alk increaser products are made from sodium bicarbonate which is a safe substance. Depending on the size of your pool you will need to carefully measure your alk increaser in order to accurately and effectively increase pool alk. Essentially, alk increaser acts as a buffer and improves the ability of your pool water to resist pH changes. When your alk level drops below 80ppm, pH will begin to fluctuate dangerously causing water to become acidic and corrosive.

I use this product for my pool and it always arrives well packaged and is as effective as the more expensive products sold at the pool store! Bulky, but worth it!

Packaging is always an issue on bulk items like this. Solvay sodium bicarb came in a strong paper bag (pictured in the listing), which was itself wrapped in a thick clear plastic bag, and then in a sturdy box. Product is very clean and not clumped at all. Great value for those who use this in pool applications.

It came in a paper bag, then a plastic bag over that, and it was in its own box, so none got spilled. I feel bad for the Fed Ex guy, though.I add baking soda to non-clumping kitty litter to make it clump. This soda looks like good stuff, it all fit in an air tight 5-gallon bucket, and it should last about a year. Buying the non-clumping litter and baking soda by the 50 lbs bag is cheaper in the long run than buying the name brand clumping litter, and it seems fresher to sprinkle the soda on top. My cats seem to like it; no accidents since I started adding soda to their litter

This is used in a swimming pool to raise alkalinity or pH. What I like about it is it has a long shelf life and is one of the easier chemicals to store, mix and apply. It's not an acid or chlorine - it's basically baking soda, so harmless. I like that it came in a 50 lb bag, as you can use a pound or two when you need to raise these measures. It came in a box which held a plastic back which this bicarbinate was in. So even if the outside box would have gotten wet in the rain or something, during shipping, it would have been protected.

I was told I needed to drain my pool because ph was not readable (to low). 50 lbs of Sodium Bicarbonate cost less than 20 lbs. in a plastic bucket at the pool store or online. 5 lbs of baking soda from the grocery store cost lest than 5 lbs online or at the pool store. KEEP IT DRY AND IT WILL LAST A LONG TIME

This is like buying baking soda in bulk. It works, but just do not put too much in.

It's a paper sack full of sodium bicarb. What else is there to say? No obvioius contamination or bastardization.
