It's hard plastic all around but feels pretty sturdy, the gear-toothed launchway for the top holds it really sturdy when playing around and consistently gives the top about 30 seconds of unimpeded spin. The only reason I'm taking out a star is the reloading - it works but it gets old fast - the gear system is great for launch but makes it hard to reload because you have to manually spin the top a bunch of times all the way down the 'blade'. There isn't a portion of the top that spins freely to grab onto, and there isn't anything built into the mechanism to hold either; you can put one finger down under the top and friction slide it along, but that gets old fast and I can only fit my pinky there, so if your child needs you to reload it for them keep that in mind.

My 5 year old son was able to easily use this for his current beyblade battles, was able to pick up and understand how it works very quickly. No frustration

Very nice design and sturdy for our kiddo to use but the misleading title is a little unfortunate.We thought it would work with our child's collection of Bey Blade tops but they are not compatible.It was still fun for our kiddo to play with but the launcher being not compatible is a huge negative.

Very cool designed short-sword. Perfect size for any small kid. The spin top can be challenging for kids to hook on but it's easy to activate with the push of a button by the hilt of the sword. At first it felt like snapping the spinning top would break the gears but it didn't. Just force it down until it locks into place. The spinning top isn't strong so it's safe for kids but not that great for spinning battles.
