Works perfectly. Watched a you tube video first and everything went smoothly. Had to caculate wiring needed and got heavy duty wires. It was a nice, easy install.

Yup, just a cheap little timer for your hot water heater that seems to work forever. Does what its supposed to do and does it reliably. I recently replaced my on-demand heaters (Bosch units that developed leaks) with solar/tank heaters and added these into the loop.Only downside is that the On/Off switch on front does not override the timer. In other words, turning it to 'OFF' today means that tomorrow when the timer reaches its turn-on, it turns on. I'd prefer it just stayed off since the solar part of my hot water system works fine in the summer...but it's probably the way everyone else would want it to work and provides a nice visual indicator of where the timer is in the On/Off cycle. As far as money goes, I can actually monitor how much money I spend on hot water each day in this house and can report that this unit saves me 30 to 60 cents daily. That's a payback of a few months - easy to justify. I'm also of the belief that it might help the heater last longer but, no way to know that for sure. In the end, just nice to have hot water when you need it and know you're not wasting your money the rest of the time.

Well made and fairly easy to install. I used 8 gauge wire. It may take 6 gauge, but it would be hard. It comes with 4 sets of on-off "trips" so you can program 4 on-off cycles. I only have 1 on-off cycle with one 7pm off pin so if I manually turn it on it won't be on all night. Very good quallity.

On the the black round control for the time, it works irregularly and fails to keep correct time. Have reset it countless times. Also the pins bent. Have used two of this style of timer in the same location in the same house for over thirty-five years, so when purchased from Amazon, we had the expectation of no problems. The only option for support from Amazon is RETURN, which would mean the uninstallation and re-installation would be at MY cost.I believe the problem is with the plastic black timer dial and the three (3) brass pins and (3) steel pins, which must be inserted into slots of the plastic to turn the timer on and off. Electrical interruption is not the problem, or other appliances would also go off. Have checked breakers and corrected the timer dial many times, yet this morning the shower was *lukewarm* due to the disfunction of Intermatic WH21 Electric Water Heater Timer. The machine works, but the timing control system is flawed. We threw away the original box, because we have had two of these exact same Intermatic timers before and they worked perfectly for decades. Then there was a problem with old the timer and it flipped the breaker in the electric box. The timer on the old one stopped working. It would not turn, so did not change as hours passed. There seem to be limited brand choices for water heater timers. Sorry, sorry, sorry I did not purchase from a local vendor who might offer Customer Service and Support. Suggest you check out other options. FYI, the pins on this model do NOT interchange with the sprinkler timer by Intermatic. This unit works, but must be turned on and off manually, if one does not want to pay charges for 24 hours of water heating, which adds noticeably to the cost of electric utility. Always the small bits are the killers, what a shame. :( UPDATE 10 March 2018: Timer wheel does not move at all. Timer must be turned on and off manually. Cannot recommend this product. We spent 50 bucks to have the same problem as the old timer that was replaced. See photos. The metal pins seem to be of softer metal than they were years ago.

Had one of these before installed on an old home. Decided to install one on a new home to try and save a few dollars.

At the time of writing, I've had this device installed (correctly) for a week and so far so good.My biggest complaint is that the installation instructions could be clearer. According to the wiring diagram inside the door, the white neutral wires connects to pressure plate A, but they are in fact meant to connect to pressure plates 3 and 4, which are marked as "line 2" on the diagram. The instruction flyer has a slightly clearer image indicating how to wire the device and I have attached said image to this review, I've even colored in the green ground wires.Once I figured out where the wires are actually meant to go, I had no problem installing the timer, but be warned that you need a minimum of electrical tools and know-how to do it safely.

Where I live, we have time-of-use electricity rates. This is my second timer purchase, the first one lasted nine years. When I installed the first one, using the timer for two and a half hours every morning in off-prime time saved me close to a dollar a day. Under three months for payback? Any person should jump at that kind of savings. We only ever ran out of hot water at Christmas and Thanksgiving, when the house was full of visiting family. Press the override button, wait a bit, and all is good. Easy to install, if the power goes out, you will have to reset the time, not a big deal. We have a 60 gallon tank, just so I'm not hiding anything.

Installed the Little Grey Box a few days after receiving. Watched a video on Utube, Took my time andfollowed the instructions as presented on the video. Start to finish in 45 minutes. Unit appears to be working as intended. After a week i have observed the Off / On cycles and will consider adjusting theon time to be no more than an hour,, twice a day.. As demand will dictate the best start times YOU may well have to adjust or add some more Off / On cycles to suit your specific needs. As advertised, The initial cost should be recovered in 3-4 months.. I will await to see the hydro consumption numbers on my bills to see how accurate they are..
