This is a very nice grow light set up. It's very easy to assemble, it's very sturdy and allows you to adjust the height of the light to the exact position you want it in. It's also a nice frame should you wish to convert to LED lighting, you can clip another type light right on. I like florescent lighting so as long as I can still get bulbs, I will stick with the florescent bulb provided.

I got this set on sale for $20 out of season, which is a fantastic deal. Would have been happy to pay a bit more if the light fixture was 2-4 bulbs instead of one tube. The light is too narrow to be an ideal light source for anything other than small batch seed starting but it works well. Seedlings are happy. Would need at least a two bulb setup for long term growth for more than a single narrow planter, but plan to re-use the frame with a wider light for a herb garden. Frame is reasonably sturdy and easy to assemble. The nylon cord setup is easy to adjust quickly, move out of way for watering, and angle light to account for one planter being taller than the one next to it.

Update 2 years later: 12/20. The lights are still going strong and very useful for starting seedlings. I prefer them to 4 ft led units, but both are more than adequate for the task.I have been starting seeds for years on a four-tier stand with T8 fixtures, which was good enough for most seeds, but my tomato seedlings were too leggy. I decided to try a T5 fixture, but worried that a T5 4-lamp fixture would run dangerously hot in my 12 inch deep stand. So I purchased this stand and set it up on a table away from a wall. With one reservation, my experience so far has been favorable. The stand was well-packed and arrived without damage. Installing the T-5 lamps was a bit tricky, but they work well. The fixture is silent and not hot at all. The housing is warm to the touch and the bulbs emit some mild warmth, but nothing to be concerned about from a safety perspective. When starting seeds with the fixture two inches above two 10†x 20†trays, the fixture light did not evenly cover the trays, with the seedlings on the outer edges leaning over toward the light. I think that 10†x 20†trays require a four-lamp fixture. I can still make use of the stand, but will put 2 rather than 3 rows of 3†containers in the trays, in order to avoid the outer edges of the trays.Update 7 weeks later. By centering 2 rows of 3†containers in a 10 x 20 tray, I got good coverage for a dozen tomato starts. As I’d hoped, the starts were stocky with strong stems. As the starts grew and I raised the lights, they covered the entire horizontally placed 10 x 20 tray. Ideally, the fixture would be a few inches deeper, with the bulbs spaced further apart.

This is a great stand at an attractive price. When I ordered mine, I thought I read a notice that it was used but like new, and that describes well what I received. Though there was minor residue on parts, it is indeed in like new functional condition. A pair of gloves were included for use during setup which I didn't used. But, given the construction, there might be a few metal spurs here or there that could jab. The instructions on mine also gave a 3 kg (6.6 lbs) load limit. That seems to be extremely conservative, though if you were planning on hanging a heavy weigh in the center, it would be best to reinforce it with a 1x2x4 piece of wood strapped on to give additional support. It was not an issue for me. I have attached 2 Feida brand 130W LED lights ( daisy-chained together for light which works great. I'm also using a quantum par meter ( to adjust lighting, taking care that sufficient light is reaching the corners and far sides. This is a setup that works very well for me, so I'm happy. The distance between the two vertical supports is about 48 inches though they could be spread out to 50 inches easily. The distance from the surface to the top support is about 45 inches. If you are hanging a long grow light tube, then the included pully system does work fine, but after raising to the desired height, push up on the catch so that the rope holds at that height. I recommend the product for home use but for a commercial setup, something more robust would be better.

After cycling through a couple different lights and almost losing some plants this rig has got our Meyer Lemon trees back on track. We live in a small apartment so this light does seem out of place, more like a light you would see at a professional greenhouse but it has a relatively thin profile and doesn’t spit out light in all directions making it less obtrusive and disruptive. I am a true believer in the T5 bulbs. They keep our fish healthy and as we are realizing that they work well with plants as well. This review is for the 54w x 2 setup so be mindful of what you order. There is a lower powered fixture that I believe is only one bulb. I don’t know what the results would be using the lower power one but this one is working great. Yellowing is going away and a ton of new growth has occurred over the 2-3 weeks I have been using it. Our condo was only getting about 6 hours of sunlight and moving them under the light permanently for 8-9 hours has yielded some healthier plants. Setting up the light was a little bit weird and it uses plastic joint couplers that I have never seen before. I really thought it was breaking when I had to softly hammer them together. They really could have used bolts to hold it together but I don’t plan on moving this around much so it’s not that big of a deal and it doesn’t seem like it will fall apart all that easily. Thankful that I found this light!
