We tried other brands on Amazon - but their "NPT" tapers turned out to be NOT actually NPT. They simply jammed on true NPT items. In contrast, THIS item works fine - no jamming, no binding, just nice and smooth spinning along the threads. This item was substantially cheaper than the others that didn't work. Have not used this long enough to comment on longevity. Very pleased - wish we had chosen this item to begin with as doing so would have saved us time and hassle.

I am creating a special tool for rethreading pipe ends of sprinkler risers and I need to braze this die on a pipe that can be turned with a wrench, above ground. This should work well.

Works as advertised. Used it to take the taper off plastic sprinkler extensions to put sprinkler lower.Worked well for what I was trying to do.

Good die for cleaning up and chasing damaged or dirty/rusty/painted pipe threads. Note that this in NOT my preference for threading an unthreaded pipe, but it can do that in a pinch...I have a heavy duty die set with features that help align the die with the pipe to thread unthreaded pipe...but my heavy-duty die set is too big to work in a confined space or on a short pipe nipple. That's where this compact rethreading die is great.For those wanting to know what wrench fits this die (Amazon doesn't say)...this 1/2" pipe die is 1.438" across flats, so one can use a 1 7/16" die stock or 1 7/16" socket wrench, or equiv. open end or box wrench. A socket would be best for tight quarters as one can turn it with a ratchet and various extenders. In a pinch one can just use a pair of channel locks...not pretty, but it works in confined space for light-duty cleaning. A big adjustable wrench will of course work, but it adds a lot of bulk around the die in tight quarters.Highly recommended!

I had to clean up the threads on a fitting that a ridgid die could not be used. This piece did the job perfectly.
