If you are shopping for a 3" drill bit I probably don't need to tell you that Irwin bits are great, and this one is exactly as advertised. However, in case you don't usually use tools like this let me tell you... Be careful, this thing is a beast. It'll make a man out of ya... Or break your wrist.

Irwin's 3" self feed bit is not worth the price. Cutting edges need about an hour with a file to sharpen. Bit was not machined sharpened. I will not purchase other IRWIN TOOLS.

This bit is a beast. No way to hold on with a hand drill. For thus size bore I ended up buying a non-self-feed bit that can be controlled.

This bit is SICK. I needed to drill some holes in a unit subfloor to get it soundproofed with cellulose. I first tried with a hole saw, but discovered there were 3 layers of plywood, with some hardwood in certain areas, which made the hole saw option a huge hassle, having to pry out the layers from the hole saw after each layer. I gave up after 2 holes. So I purchases this bit instead. This thing just ATE through everything, and was still going strong when I finished after 40 holes.Note : my Milwaukee battery-powered hand drill did the trick for the first few holes, but got really hot after a while, and kept on stopping whenever there was a bit of a kick. I then switched to a corded drill, which I would highly reccommend if you have a good number of holes to make. Also, make sure you have a really good grip...this thing bites really hard into the wood.
