I needed to replace doorknobs at my parents' house because arthritic hands can't turn knobs easily. Removed the old hardware to find little 1.5" holes instead of standard 2.125". I imagined the nightmare of me free-handing a hole saw to correct the problem. Found this little gadget and it worked like a champ! I had to re-drill 5 doors and finished the job in a couple hours. It is adjustable for depth and width and comes with 2 standard hole saws and a pilot bit. If I'd had to do this job manually I probably would have replaced a couple doors (I'm not the handiest tool in the shed). Outstanding value!

We have a solid wood door to my basement. Not one of the new lightweight doors but this one is heavy and solid. The old passage handle was installed with 3 drilled holes not one big hole, so no modern passage set would fit, so finally after 30 years of frustration, I ordered this kit. It took my husband about 15 minutes to drill through the door, about half way from each side. He also had to drill the latch hole as the old hole was too small, so we basically had to use the whole kit. Finally I have a functional, new style handle to match the rest of my home. Well worth the money. I would say great for occasional use, but not a professional tool.

Good: a) affordable, b) good dimensions for the small hole and standard door, c) hole saws were correct sizeProblems: a) The hole saws did not cut very well, and the central drill bit came loose despite tightening with an Allen key, b) The plastic side arms, which flip according to the thickness of the door, broke c) Unfortunately, some of my doors were thicker by about 1/8" to 1/4" than the yellow plastic unit allowed.Missing: Templates for the latch that some kits includeConclusion: Fine for a DIY with one or two doors, but it won't last long. For a non-standard door thickness (as in older homes), I would get one that adjusts infinitely to door thicknesses. Keep the hole saws cool.

The kit comes with what you need to drill holes for a lockset into a wooden door slab.The good:- It's a complete kit. All you need is a pencil, screwdriver and a drill.- The hole saws are good enough to cut multiple wood doors with the caveat below under "not good thing"- The kit is very inexpensive relative to what is included.- The arbor that comes with the kit will fit other professional grade hole saws.- It's cheap enough that you can lend it to someone and not ask for it back!The not as good:- The guide is plastic and not sturdy enough for my comfort so I used a clamp to hold the edges of the hole template in place. Once the hole is started you really won't need the guide.- The hole saws are of adequate durability / quality to cut a few doors. I would not expect the saws to hold up under regular use, especially with solid wood doors.- It comes packed in a vacuum formed shell, I think that it's called a card, that is a major pain in the neck to get the product out of.

Got the job done but I had to play with the inner bit a lot to keep it from wobbling or falling out. Not a sturdy designed bit. Note - nails are a good way to brace the guide to the door. I wish the sides were adjustable inward to accommodate thinner or thicker doors.

First time DIY solid wood door install. I did three bedrooms and one bathroom door with this device. Easy to use for a home project. I enjoyed the fact that the device had two holes in the side where the latch assembly would normally be screwed into.Due to this, I would close the door first without the device on it, line up the old strike plate that is still on the door sill and make two lines (top/bottom) to where the face plate on my new door would be even with the strike plate. I would then place the face plate in between my two lines and fill in the circles where the 2 screws would go with pencil. Now, attaching this tool to the door by placing 2 screws in place where the faceplate should go, held the yellow handle kit in place. Drilled my large holes first (get one side started, then finish through the other to prevent splintering), then the smaller latch hole. Unscrewed the kit and was ready for handle install. Make sure to drill as horizontally as you can so when you slide in your latch, it does not catch on an angle.Anyone can install a handle with this tool. Gave me confidence in another skillset I can add to my repertoire.

This product does work. I had to replace a hollow core door that was damaged. This was my first door I've replaced. This product does adjust however it does not fit snugly to the door and when drilling the lock set hole, it could potentially be off center a little. I'm not sure how to rate it because I don't have anything to compare it too. Based on my experience I'll give it a 4 because I had no problems BUT I did have to constantly check to see if it was still in the correct location even though it was screwed into the door frame. I would probably buy it again (I DO like the price) and I would recommend it to other people but just make sure you check it's location. If I needed to hang a lot of doors I would probably buy the more expensive one but if you just have one or two doors to hang this will do the job just fine.
