Worked great. I was hesitant to buy a manual Pex tool but it was really easy to use and didn't take much effort at all to expand the pipe ends. Highly recommend for the amateur plumber or home owner looking to do some light plumbing.

This is the best crimping tool and all that you will need for your van build. If you are a full-time pex-A installer, then you can afford the automatic crimping tools. Actually, I don't know why they call this a crimping tool for pex-A tubing, since you are really 'expanding' the tubing and it bonds itself to your joints.Anyway, I used this to replumb my RV with Pex-A tubing and with 50-60 connections, everything functions well (no leaks) and a vast improvement over the original job. Highly recommend this tool for your job and also Pex-A over any other tubing that you are researching. When lubing the tool, be sure to take off the expansion end and just lube the inside cone.

The ratcheting mechanism doesn't work consistently for me on 1/2in pex. And yes I was making sure to open in all the way each time. You really need 3 hands to use this on the first end of a pex tube--one to hold the pex and make sure it doesn't rotate, and 2 to operate the tool. I ended up using a sharpie to write a number on each section of the expansion head and make an index mark on the pex, so it was easier to see if it the head had rotated properly relative and that I hadn't let the pex move. The rotation depends on the friction between a greased O-ring and the expansion head, so if the expansion head digs into the pex, it may not rotate.I've only used this on 1/2 pex and I've seen other review complain about it being too hard to use on larger sizes. Allow me to introduce you to a phrase from the auto repair world: "cheater bar". Get a pipe that fits nicely over the handles of the tool to effectively make the handles larger. In the automotive world, I usually steal the handle from a floor jack. Doubling the length of the handles will double the force at the expansion head for a given amount of force at tip of the handles. If you break the tool and hurt yourself, you went too long.

Great tool to do your own plumbing. Save lots of money and do it your self. Easy to use and comes with all the accessories you could need.

This set is about all I need. PEX is so much easier to use than threaded or brazed fittings and I will not use PVC/CPVC because due to their tendency to become brittle over time.

The autorotate feature is what separates it from other manual pipe expanders. You can get a $500 battery operated exapander but in my opinion, this is all DIYers need for home projects.
