I recently purchased this shelf and I am very pleased with it. The assembly was straightforward, taking me about 30 minutes. They don’t seem to be real wood. They are light and cheap material. Kind of thought they would be better quality. Have a powdery white substance on the shelves that leave your hands all chalky.

These shelves will be fine for perching some lightweight items, or maybe four or five medium-sized books per shelf. The low price tag comes with some caveats, of course.1. The “wood†used to make these shelves is Balsa wood, or some equivalent. It sounds like styrofoam when you touch it, and you could literally break it in half with a karate chop.2. Each shelf is made of two pieces of this wood, glued down the center. The grain patterns do not match. The center seam is highly visible on the edge of the shelf. The wood grain is raised, not sanded flat. Therefore, I would characterize these shelves as “rustic.â€3. The wood has been stained a darker color—Espresso, in my case—but has not been properly sealed or finished beyond that. If you wipe the shelves with a damp rag to clean them, the finish lifts off. Potential for color transfer to any lighter colored objects you place on the shelves.4. There are two sizes of screws included with the shelves, small ones to attach the the brackets to the underside of the shelves, and larger ones to fix the brackets to your walls. The small size screws are too small for the holes in the brackets, and will slip through if you happen to bump or lift the shelf upward.5. The two corner edges of the shelves have not been cut “square†(i.e. at a 90-degree angle). Mine were slightly off. But then again, so was my wall. Expect a small gap on one side or the other.Like I said, these shelves will suffice for my purposes, but they are priced cheap for a reason.

The installation was simple, I liked that it came with a tiny level but I couldn’t get it to stop rolling off the shelf, maybe a flat casing for it you be nice. I ended up just using my iPhone to find the level. They are quite sturdy and look great. Perfect for keeping plants and legos away from little hands.

We have them in our living room to house the phone (we love our landline!) and baby monitor. It’s the perfect size! Super easy to install! I wish the notch in the back was slightly larger, needed to unscrew to get the power wires behind.
