There is a large border around the table top that blocks the light which is a bummer. And the light is not very bright for classroom use. But I have no idea how I would return it.

At the Children's Museum in Phoenix there was a light box that my little one gravitated to. I couldn't find many like it for sale but this is similar. This is something that has to be sturdy and heavy. If it isn't built like a tank, it would break within 30 seconds of my toddler playing with it. I think this is why you don't see these for sale a lot; they're just dangerous if made cheaply and expensive when done right. Kids will naturally put their weight on the top of the glass while positioning their crafts so it better be able to take it. If you go with a small light box on a table they will not get as much use out of it. With this there is so much more that you can do. Try searching online for "light box activity ideas for toddlers" and you will see what kinds of educational and fun things you can do with this table. When you aren't using it as a light table, it's a fine activity bench, Lego/Duplo base, or desk in its own right.Nothing about this table is like the typical cheap, plastic, mass produced toys I've grown accustomed to. There is a metal key and lock to keep the lights secure underneath. The wood is solid and the cloudy Plexiglas on top is professional grade. The lights are easily replaceable fluorescents that produce almost no heat and cost pennies to keep on constantly. From the look and feel of it, I'm guessing one could have a school full of kindergarteners play with it for years without issues as long as an adult didn't stand or sit on the Plexiglas top. The person that designed this created something that could withstand the wrath of a toddler's superhuman destructive force and shenanigans. It's smaller than I thought but it's just big enough for two toddlers to play with. You can't see the light bulbs under the cloudy Plexiglas; it's just a uniform white light which is perfect. The light doesn't extend completely to the end of the perimeter so there's a soft frame like effect. The light is so bright that it completely illuminates an entire small room at night. It's not too much light; it's just the right amount of light to brighten up the ultra-cool transparent toys.I'd like to drill a hole in the side so the power cord isn't forced to go under the bottom leg, but it's not a big concern. It took about three weeks to get delivered, which feels like years if you're a toddler. There was no assembly required. I dropped it out of a refrigerator size box; I cut and trimmed a couple of the zip ties holding wires, peeled off the Plexiglas protective film, and plugged it in.This is an expensive kid's toy but I feel it's worth it given its potential for educational benefit and enjoyment. My little guy and I couldn't be happier.

I have wanted one of these for so long and this did not disappoint! My preschoolers LOVE it. After using it for all last year I know it will stand up to the demands of anactive preschool class.
