For context, I've been an avid road cyclist for the past 10 years and did a lot of mountain biking when I was younger. I'm not a pro or raced professionally, but I have certainly had my share of helmets over the years. As my son gets older and he wanted to takes rides in the new wagon or in a new iBert seat I bought, I really wanted to get him a good helmet. I did a lot of research on Amazon, visited Sports Authority and checked out a couple bike shops. I have to admit at first they all looked the same and I found myself looking more at whether I liked the color or not. There's some pretty cool designs out there. But then I started reading more and having my son try them on. That's when the differences became obvious.Size - The helmet should be somewhat proportional to your child's head size. Let's face it, kids don't like wearing helmets, so you don't want it to be something unwieldy. Many of the helmets I looked at used the same size helmet regardless of your childs age. The size or diameter on the inside changes, but the outside dimensions are the same from infant to 5 years old. My son is 17 months old. Some of those helmets looked gigantic on his head and bothered him more than others. The Joovy was perfect.Fit - Obviously fit is pretty important to comfort and safety. If I was looking at a helmet for myself I'm looking for adjustability, padding where it's needed and comfortable chin strap with 4 points of contact to the helmet. Many other helmets lacked one or all of these features or the higher end ones models simply cost more than they should. The Joovy had all these features. The adjustability and comfort of fit were excellent. There's a dial in the back to tighten or loosen, padded chin strap, 4 points of contact, extra pads, etc. It cups his head and won't side forward or backward like you see with some helmets. Note...be sure to measure your child's head. This adjusts by a couple inches, but you should be within the range they quote.Coverage - This helmet has full coverage that comes down the back of the head, really covering down to the base of the skull. I like the little extra coverage.Ventilation - for obvious reasons. If your child is hot and sweaty they won't be comfortable or enjoyable to be around.Safety - The material of the outer shell and internal material are identical to my own fancy road biking helmets.Visor - my wife is crazy about sun protection and my son never leaves the house without sunblock. If it was up to her my son would wear sunglasses every time he's outside. The visor is nice because it helps keep the sun off his face. Plus, considering it's a solid visor, not just a plastic visor like you see on mountain biking helmets, it adds a little more protection. We bought the neon green. It's not the most stylish per se, but you can't miss him. Plus it's gender neutral so hopefully we'll get a couple uses out of this helmet after my son out-grows it. I wish they made other sizes so I can continue to buy their product as he gets older.

This blue helmet matches my son’s new blue Strider balance bike perfectly! 🚲 I wasn’t sure which size get, but I’m glad I went bigger based on other user reviews. For size reference, he’s 23 Months, 29 lbs, wears mostly 3T clothing, and has a giant 99th percentile noggin. 🧠This was super easy to adjust and fits him perfectly, with room to grow but not TOO much. It’ll probably fit another year or so. It looks comfortable and stylish. The blue is bright and so shiny! He’s not a huge fan of wearing it yet, so we’re practicing wearing it in the house. I plan on getting a bike and helmet for myself, in hopes it makes them look *cool.*It’s fairly lightweight but not the lightest helmet out there. It’s actually much bulkier in person than I imagined, and reminds me of the classic helmets my dad used to make me wear as a kid. A lot of my friends have gotten “skate†helmets for their toddlers; a lower profile helmet, more flat and smooth. My son is a pretty big klutz, so I wanted a good brand name I trust and as mutant safety features and protection as possible. There’s tons of fancy character helmets out there (dinosaurs, spikes, shark fins...), but a helmet is safest when it doesn’t have any extra add-ons.I’m really happy I went with Joovy! Highly recommend this helmet. Just make sure to check the size chart and measure your kiddo’s head for the best fit.Hope this helps! Happy Safe Ridin’! 💙

Perfect helmet for our 1 y/o. We bought this helmet for our son to wear when he rides on the back of our bikes. I love that it is adjustable and I can make sure it is snug on his head without being too tight. I measured his head prior to buying and he was right at the smallest size indicated for the helmet, but when we received it and I set it to the smallest size that ended up being too small. So being able to easily adjust has been a very welcome feature. I made it a little larger and it fits him perfectly without slipping down over his eyes. Our son loves to wear it, too. It took him a second to get used to it, as he often tried to pull it off his head, but when we are on the bike he is perfectly fine and doesn't mess with it too much. I also like that when he's sitting in the seat it doesn't fall down over his eyes. I attribute this to the excellent fit. It also is just a very sturdy helmet. I like that it covers his head well and the straps seem very secure, not just attached with sticky pads under the shell (as some other helmets are). I'll admit I was a little curious if it was worth the money as some other infant helmets are cheaper, but I'm so glad we went with this one. I'm looking forward to getting a lot of use out of this helmet for a while to come!!

Originally got my little girl the xs-s size. She’s 5 almost 6 and I think she has an average to smaller size head but the xs-s did not fit. But I loved the quality of the helmet and my daughter loved how lightweight it was compared to her old- so we sized up and it fits like a glove. Perfect!

This is a great helmet, but I was disappointed to find out that the larger size is no longer available. I previously purchased a s/m and wanted to get a second one. I took a chance on the listing which stated the size as “small†but it’s an xs/s and is just a little too tight for my 3yo who has a pretty average sized head. I can’t seem to find the larger size anywhere.

Love this helmet is adjustable and fits my son’s head perfectly. The colour matches so well with his new strider bike. He gets so many compliments and he normally hates wearing hats or anything on his head, but hasn’t complained about wearing this helmet at all. Chin strap is easy to get on and off. Highly recommended purchase! The price is excellent too.

This was a perfect fit for my 20 month old. He wanted a helmet to 'ride' a scooter like his siblings and most 1-3 year old store models are too big. This one xs is the perfect fit!

I couldn't find a size this small. Very happy with it.

I’ve done tones of research before purchasing this helmet and it did not disappoint. It fitted extremely well and it’s very light weigh. Also unlike the other options on Amazon it has plenty openings for ventilation. The only thing that I want to point out is that the helmet does fit small. I bought it for a 33lbs 20 month old who’s 35†and it was too small. If I could get a bigger size which unfortunately Amazon did not have at the time I definitely would.
