I'm luthier. I build custom acoustic guitars, repair stringed instruments, and I restore historical guitars. One of the frequent things that need replacement on historical guitars, is binding.Back in the day, guitar bindings were made of cellulose nitrate or celluloid. Much like nitrocellulose lacquer, these bindings contain nitro. Today, these bindings are considered volatile, and so they carry a huge shipping surcharge.Nitrocellulose bindings dry out and break into sharp pieces, which are dangerous and need total replacement. I have the choice between nitro bindings or modern pvc. I inform my clients of the choice, and the advantages vs. disadvantages. First and foremost, the bindings should be true to the guitar.I've found that these specific bindings, in cream, are an exact match to Gibson's war era and prewar guitars, in size and color. They match their nitro counterparts to a T. All ask me my advise and I advise them to go with the pvc.Pictured is a wartime Banner Gibson Kalamazoo Lady, that went through hell and back in Katrina. This resortation took months and I used this binding.

Looks very nice. The pattern and color is even. The surface is a little rough though, but it will be sanded anyways. Pretty much as expected. Great for the price.

I restore older guitars as well as new builds. This is a real nice binding (I got the tortoise shell pattern). It bent and installed accurately. Just to be safe I used a heat gun to help make the tight bends around the cutaway on a solid body install. Nice look, nice handling.

First time I've worked with celluloid binding, for a ukulele in building. I like the feel and polish of this material, and with a judicious amount of heat from a hair blower, it is easier to bend than ABS binding.
