This anti static mat turned out to be more then i expected. It has plenty of room for small diodes, resistors, inductors and a couple spots to place tools also. I like it .

This is a must-have for anyone working on electronics. I recently helped my daughter build a new PC and the dry winter weather meant dealing with more static that we are used to. This mat definitely gave peace of mind knowing we wouldn't compromise expensive components during assembly.The size of the mat and the many compartments to keep track of all the parts were perfect. I especially appreciate that the compartments are labeled so knowing what gets put back where is super easy. Even the tiny compartments on the left have generic labels (A-1 to A-30). This is perfect for when you have a lot of the same kind of screws but they go into different areas. It sucks to get done with a repair and realize you have one or two screws that came out but have not made it back in. Many of the compartments are magnetized which is helpful, though I am not sure why they didn't magnetize them all...at least the trays down the right side of the mat. There are plenty of places to store screwdriver bits and other tools...(full disclosure: I didn't use those as I already had a kit to keep those items easily available and organized.) Finally, the mat comes with a set of two velcro straps that allow the mat to be rolled up and stored without unrolling.My only real complaint and reason for a 4-star rating is that there are absolutely NO instructions included. Most of these types of mats have a snap to clip your wrist strap and ground cable on, this one includes alligator clips instead and there is no spot indicated on the mat to where they should be clipped. The wrist strap can be clipped to the mat or you can remove the clip and directly plug into the grounding plug. There is a second wire to ground the mat directly to the grounding plug and clip to the mat. Experienced users of this kind of product more than likely know how these work but newbies following YouTube videos might be scratching their heads on what plugs in where since there is not a snap on the mat or instructions.

The actual work area you get is 13" x 8" so it's very small, probably suitable for cell phone repair but not a lot of space for taking apart a video game console for example. The rest of the area is dedicated for screw placement and there are large circular impressions for wire spools which are a bit unnecessary. It is very thin. If you hold it up to the light you can almost see the light shine through the main work area. Mine already has a few permanent scuff marks and indents from just a couple of projects. All in all, it's not bad for what it is but its definitely for light duty work.
