Nice to see you can still buy products made in the usa!The mat is very sturdy, actually the surface is very hard, you'd want to put a towel or something over it for comfort. The mat comes with stern warnings about the fire risks, so stern in fact that my wife didn't even dare to plug it in. Even I felt like maybe this mat is not suitable for indoor usage.I figured I will just try it and watch it closely for a few hours. If you put a double towel over it at full heat, it gets pretty warm inside, though nowhere near a dangerous level, but not very effective as a heater. A single towel with the included rheostat at the lowest level seemed to give all the heat we needed and not as hard a surface. The bottom of the mat is insulated so it doesn't get hot there at all.I would have given 5 stars for the impeccable build quality but I think a mat of this kind should have adequate protection built in to make sure it never overheats even if something is on top of it. Not being able to use it (or only at our own risk) on a carpet or under a towel limited the usefulness for us. I think I will use mine as a foot warmer or outside for the baby goats.

I’ve used this product for about a month for a litter of eight Labrador Retriever pups. The product is slightly warm which is prefect for the pups. They use it when they want. There has been no problems with the product curling which others have described. I would recommend this product for pups. The mom also lays on it at times.

This is my 2nd Kane pad, they are normally excellent heating devices however this one only heats 2/3 of the pad. Not sure what the issue is. I would send back, but temps are in the low teens everynight so will keep. Just disappointing because my 1st Kane pad works as it should. Use that one for my tortoises though.
