The OEM installed VDO rudder angle indicator failed after 25 years on my 40' sport fisherman twin jet drive boat. That indicator is crucial to me when I am trying to dock in close quarters or move astern.VDO wanted a small fortune for a replacement so I took a gamble with this less expensive item. It took a bit of time for the install / calibration but it works flawlessly. If I had to do the install again, it would take much less time.

Had to make some adjustments on the rudder sensor, but that's to be expected. Nothing is plug and play on a boat. But this is a good piece of equipment.

It takes a bit of planning and work to install the sensor itself to the rudder, but it works like a charm and is very sensitive and picks up on even small rubber angle changes.

This makes docking the boat so much easier-safer.Unit is easy to install as long as you have a way to hook up an arm to the rudder stock so it connects to the little sender unit. Their instructions are vague, but I had a chance to see how my buddy hooked his up so I wasn’t going in totally blind.The gauge is all plastic and ok for what I paid for this whole unit. My buddy’s gauge has a glass lens and admittedly is nicer… but $1500 installed nicer?

My marine electrician advises this failed right out of box at install. Past the return date.

It installs easily, But the indicator is showing reverse direction on gauge. And the directions provided to correct it does not help.
