The material is nice, very soft although it's not the thickest. It offers some protection in the cold but don't expect to tackle arctic conditions. It's comfortable to wear and does a good job at protecting the skin against the cold air. FYI there isn't a tag or anything with washing instructions - best to wash it by hand.

My nephew was on business in Montreal during the last snow storm and I made him take one of the gaiters. He was so glad he did. With the wind gusting, it blocked the wind and kept him warm.
